As John said I purchased from Jim,I do however suspect that Ray would have had a hand in helping Jim set the car up as they were great mates and both loved properly driving their cars...as was demonstrated by Ray to me all those years ago.
You'd have been smiling to if you'd have gone on that balltearer of a drive.......oh hang on ..perhaps not you're not that happy a bloke to be around
That was one of the drives you take to your grave with a smile on your face !!!!! You read all those stories in SCW magazine from many years past and then you get the chance to do it for real
I had an E49 that I drove flatout from Charters Towers to Mt Isa that was close to the fun we had Simon

Uhuh,at what point did you flick the 4wd switch. The road is still crap in some places and I suspect a great deal of it would have been dirt back then and the remainder standard singlelane get off the road for oncoming traffic.
1973, sealed all the way from memory but yes you had to get off the road when the roadtrains came your way as the roads were narrow .......... no need for 4wd
Reading the thread, would seem certain a massive turnout of Ferrari people and there cars ...nice send off.
Charlie Clements had a brilliant send off, buried in his racing suit and coffin decked out as an F1 acr
Ray's funeral is looking like it will be very wet, hopefully not, he deserves a Ferrari send off Image Unavailable, Please Login
I'll be there in Horse unless it hails. I first met Ray at McLeans Bridge car show in 1982, I was there with my Father and his Alfa Romeo Montreal and Ray came over and asked if we'd like to join the Ferrari Club on one of their runs. We did a little while later and met some great people and really enjoyed it. We went to a National Rally in Melbourne, bought a 365 GT4 2+2, then a Sydney Rally, my brother bought a Dino and then my Father bought Horse, a 308 GTsi QV, I bought a 308 GTB and the rest is history. Had we not met Ray I don't know whether we would have gone down the Ferrari road. I was lucky enough to passenger in Ray's 330 GTC, and also have a drive of the 195 Inter. I had Ray as a passenger once from Palmwoods to Montville in Horse when we dropped a bus used to ferry the club to a restaurant the night before...we both agreed it was one of the best drives ever, Ray loved a good speed. Ray was also on the famous Gwydir Highway run in the late 80's where we did 165 k's in an hour, and some of it was 2nd gear stuff. He was a great enthusiast, a lovely man and will be missed by all who knew him.[/QUOTE]
I took Ray for a drive in a very fast car (at the time) He enjoyed it. Sig www.pless.com.au/mechanics.htm
