Not a good start for Sir Loulou 09:33 "Porpoising - it’s the buzzword at the start of this new rules era. Effectively the cars rock or bounce up and down as the air attaches and reattached itself when they approach vmax. Like yesterday, it’s Hamilton who appears to be suffering most with it this morning. The Merc is wallowing even before the 400m board on the run to Turn 1. You can here the revs rise and fall in sync as the W13 is unsettled. Looks a touch violent. Anyone got a number for the osteopath? Source: https://www.autosport.com/f1/live-text/f1-barcelona-pre-season-test-day-2/1112972/ Oh and you can of course strike the Russian GP off the 2022 schedule with Putin launching an all out invasion of Ukraine this morning the race is untenable.
Loulou to Toto: This thing is porpoising like a Pogo stick I want a race car not a pogo stick! Toto: Lewis vee build ze best pogo sticks ja?!
Williams sidepod looks very interesting....some people did their homework. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
What a unique cooling solution. If there is a radiator directly in front of that opening, then from a cooling aspect it should perform very well. However, there is no way that rear vent is big enough for the radiators, so it could be for an oil cooler. Judging from the shape of the sidepods, I suspect the radiators are mounted on an angle. While most teams are using louvers to vent air towards the center of the car, Williams solution is to vent it outboard down the sidepods. I am guessing that along with that little sharp edge at the forward corner of the sidepod, this will out wash the airflow at the top and outter portion of the sidepod, while clean air travels through the undercut. Also clean air will travel over the center of the sidepod towards the rear. Hopefully the dirty air out of this vent cleans up when it hits the path of the clean air traveling through the undercut, and/or the clean air downwashing over the top/center of the sidepods.
Sounds like a Mass Damper could be useful here. Too bad it got banned for being an aerodynamic device.
Ferrari times seem to come very easily, i hope they're not pushing, but i kinda get the feel that the car looks natutaly quick...hope i'm right!
F1 statement on Russian Grand Prix in the context of the invasion of Ukraine: "F1 is closely watching the very fluid developments like many others and at this time has no further comment on the race scheduled for September. We will continue to monitor the situation very closely."
7 months away but decision needed in about 5 months at the latest, I don't see the race happening at all. Consider also that all F1 personnel would have to fly across the black sea to get there, not the safest place just south of Donbass so southerly detour needed.
The singapore GP is immediately after. Clearly the very best thing to do is to have the Malaysian GP instead. Excellent track, next door to singapore, no war. Everyone happy.
