Sounds unlikely, I’m afraid. Are you saying that the final diff ratio ultimately makes no difference? Of course it does. It makes every gear longer. Higher top speed, sure. But poorer acceleration. It’s a bit like a constant speed prop vs fixed pitch. For a given amount of power a prop at a finer pitch will accelerate the aircraft quicker (which is why it is used for takeoff / climb), but a coarser pitch will ultimately give a higher top speed (which is why it is used for cruise). In effect, by changing the pitch you are changing the final gear ratio of the engine / propellor combination.

The issue with the 400 diff ratio , according to a Ferrari mechanic I Facebooked is Simons new cars is its unlikely to pull its noted top speed in 5th gear ..and Through the gears if it had the torque to pull it would be longer legged but FAR slower in acceleration ..........those of us who have raced UNDERSTAND THAT! Ferrari did not change the diff ratio on the 365 and 400 for FUN..

Mate, put the blame where it lies - the crooks in Legco! The real estate nepotism in HK was just the blueprint for the mainland. We traveled there a lot ,last time compared to when the Brits had control and the CCP were turning the screws on......a sad place NOT the great city pre handover . Just compare for the exercise a 4.2 E-type same specs apart from the diff ratio...major difference in acceleration and speed through the gears . If Simon had open the new car up on the roads he knows so well, before it went "bang" we WOULD be reading about it on F.Chat. There is a reason why period car manufacturers had different final diff ratios ...easy to see why.

So Peter you wouldn't call 3.25 - 4.3 a massive difference? To me if it was 3.25 - 3.5 or even 3.7 I'd agree but to me 3.25/4.3 is a massive difference in ratio
I don't know, that's why I qualified my comment. If that's a massive difference, then it'll be crap, but if it's 10% or so then it's not the end of the world. No but I have some experience with changing ratios. I had an LJ torana with a banjo diff. Anyone who know these cars will know a banjo will blow up if you look at it the wrong way. I've changed diff centres more than I've had sex since marriage 2.78, 3.36, 3.55, 3.9 you name it I've tried it. I haunted wrecking yards pulling diff centres out of wrecks. Going from one extreme to the other is a big change!
