To start off, I am not much of a watch guy - I buy mostly for cosmetic reasons. I am looking for a little advice regarding service and what’s ‘normal.’

I have a breitling chrono that I’ve had for years. A few years ago it stopped running so I brought it in to a local independent breitling authorized service center. They stated it needed a ‘full service’ + one other part and the bill was either side of $1000. After I got the watch back it was running very slow. I brought it back a few weeks later and they said it was ‘heavily magnetized’ and they ‘fixed’ it. After that the watch continued to run slow, but not as slow so I lived with it. Now, about a year and a half later it stopped running again. Return to the same service center(who always makes a point about their 3 year warranty on services) and they call me about a week later that it needs a full service again. I point out that it was with them not too long ago for a full service. Currently I am waiting on a call back as they see what they want to do.

If there’s any advice or feedback anyone can provide it would be greatly appreciated. I feel kind of like the old lady at the mechanic being told she needs blinker fluid.

I see this fairly often and the old lady moment you're having is something that happens to a lot of people. Just because a place is authorized doesn't mean they're good. I've seen it numerous times. That doesn't mean none of them are good but for example my watchmaker who I use has no certifications but he's a 3rd generation watchmaker who's been doing this since he was a teenager. He can fix some serious stuff but you'd never know it judging from his lack of diplomas on the wall and his looks.

If you want me to help feel free to send me a PM.

Why not send it to Breitling in Connecticut? I’ve had a full service on both an aerospace and chronometer evolution and they were both under $500 each and that was probably less than 5 years ago. Once you ship it to them they will send you a estimate in a 2-3 weeks and than you either approve it or not. The turn around total was about 6 weeks and they both came back brand new, polished with all scratches removed etc….

I bought a new Breitling from their online store. It was too fast. They sent out a return label and I had it back in a week, then it ran only a second off a day. I think it went to Breiting someplace in NY. Certainly a true Breitling service center. No charge. 'Always better to use the true store and true service center.

thank you all for the replies. This place has a ton of great reviews on Google and watch forums. I guess we will wait and see what they say and take it from there.
