812 Replacement Rumors

and yet the rear window is a different shape with the upper body beside that window being less slender than on the Roma. The Roma front engine modular platform would be the basis for an 812 replacement.

 

Wonder if they have plans for a VS Roma before everything goes hybrid.

 

They were testing a V12, 4L, with assistance two years ago, so not necessarily an existing engine.

 

That would possible as to why no 'engine test mule' has appeared.

This does appear to be a final test mule as it appears to be the full body shape of the actual car, which is very unusual because in recent times there has been a very obvious attempt to mask the final shape before reveal.

This car is odd, it looks like a larger Roma with an 812 style rear hatch and maybe a front bumper from the 296/SF90?

Idea, could this be a Special Projects car? A customer one-off ??

 

Also take a look at the side window behind the doors, this looks more like an 812/ F12 quarter light, not the same shape as a Roma.
I do think though, that this is a mule that they are testing out body work on, I cannot see them sending out a production version of the new model yet, as they are so secretive.

 

Obviously this is not the body of the final car. It’s just a mule.

 

The next version will be spider, not Modificata.

 

Soft top?

I have an allocation for a Portofino M....just wondering how that might look dated next to a Roma Spyder.

 

The Roma is for me the most beautiful car in the normal, exept special and Icona range.

 

How did you come to that conclusion?

To me, the "first" test mules are always based on an existing (released) model, just all re-arranged with various bit and pieces and typically disheveled exhaust tips.

This car's shape is not of an existing model and it looks complete, yes, the nose is missing "trim pieces" but otherwise it looks to be a completely new model.

When was the last time a "first" test mule (that has been sighted) been a completely new car?

I am thinking it is a Special Projects car for a favored client, like the Omologato was...

 

Good point. The rear glass is different and there is a lack of a line for the hatch.

Rear running lights have shifted also. Like the Cali T from Cali.

Wonder if the rear glass is completely fake. It is covered up. The glass is just taped in so to speak. Then what we are seeing is the spider with a lot of camo. The exposed center taillight is what we would see in a spider config and not at all a berlinetta design. Even the tires look Roma sized…

If it were a v12 model I wouldn’t expect to see it so much resemble a Roma.

I thought our man day355 confirmed no more NA V12 without hybrid for the successor. Now lots of comments about NA V12. Did something change?

This is what he said. Interesting. If he is right then perhaps what we are seeing is a one off customer car being developed and not the 812 successor. We know it isn’t a Rome M because he said the next Roma model is a spider.

One more thing has me thinking against this being the 812 successor and that is @day355 told me that the second I see the successor I’ll immediately forget about my 812. And this car in minimal camo definitely does not make me forget about my 812.
So far it looks like an 812 combined with a Roma and then smoothed over by an Aston design team.
I like my Ferraris to have some idiosyncratic styling quirkiness that just screams “Italian design!”

 

I mean it is a test mule, your not gonna see day355's description of a masterpiece of design until very close to release.

 

While the nose does appear longer than the Roma, it's hard to tell with pictures and camo. Something to note, the Roma and 812 are nearly identical in size.

What's the primary difference? Wheelbase, the Roma has a 105" wheelbase while the 812 is 107". Of course proportions are a little different, but it's hard to tell with camo. It would be cool to see an unassisted V12 from Ferrari once again, so hopefully this is a V12 test car.

The guy who spotted it says it's a v12, I assume someone like varryx will see it soon.

I definitely think you are on to something. This looks like a stretched Roma to fit a test mule. In the earlier photos the rear lights look they are stuck on and look at the ride height….so low. I know many of us feel like most production f cars need to be lowered a bit visually (lot for the P) so I am voting in your camp that if this is indeed the next 12 it’s wearing a body much like the P wore the lusso body in the early days.

 

It does look like the hood could be slightly elongated, but I don't believe that necessarily indicates V12. I think engine note would be a better way to determine cylinder count. I hope it's a V12, but too little to infer from just camo car pictures.
