    Hi all

When comparing the 458 to the 488 there is, in my opinion, something missing soundwise. So in layman terms what are the common “levels” of upgrades people do to their 488 and what do they contribute?

I guess that the “entry level” change is to install some sort of “always keep valves open” piece of software while the all out hardcore change is to remove basically everything from the engine exhaust and replace it with a straight pipe?

Also, at what level of change does the warranty go out the window?

I’ll be happy to hear what people have done and why they settled on that specific “level”

I haven’t had a standard 488, but from what I can tell with my Pista is that adding the remote was a big improvement. I wanted to change the quality of the sound, so I added a Valveless X pipe from Novitec. It has transformed the sound quality. Now toying with the idea of sport cats for more sound.

Disconnect the bypass valves and be done with it. Sounds great throughout the entire RPM range without droning.

Yep this is exactly what I did. Sounds better under 3k rpm when the valves would be closed on a 488GTB/Spyder.

    OP,
If you want louder you’ll need to go catless or 200 cell and something like a rear x pipe. Then you’ll need to tune the ECU and that will void your warranty if you care about the cars warranty if it’s still under warranty.

For what it’s worth, the X pipe makes enough difference on its own to the tonality of the exhaust that it’s worth every penny. No issues with warranty.

Personally I think the 488 sounds better than the 458!
It’s much deeper and sounds more like a F1 car!
Please don’t ruin something that sounds so beautiful.
I like the fact you have to take it over 3500rpm for the valves to open as it draws so much attention anyway and it’s nice to drive around slowly sometimes with the engine roaring all the time.

Leave yours stock then![emoji6] my Pista is infinitely better for me now with the x pipe. All it does is add more tubing and blend the two banks. Nothing overly magical about it.

I’ve never driven a standard 488, but I did come from a 458. I don’t notice a lot of difference unless I’m somewhere that amplifies the sound, like an underpass or tunnel. There was more howl with the 458, and that is now restored to the Pista, which it lacked. I’ve heard some early 488s and quite liked the sound.

I know that Ferrari says the Pista is about 8db louder or so. 50 more hours, and 200lb less, so the usual formula for faster and more nimble but you do get a lot of road noise in the car.
