Boom! $11,800. Sent it to Dallas for the cam belts and a couple of niggling CEL issues. Ended up replacing coil packs, spark plugs, potentiometer, manifold gaskets, plus all of the fluids, filters, elastic bands in the top, opened driver's door assembly to tighten rattling window regulator, etc., etc.

Excuse me now while I clean out my underwear.

If you listed all of that without the number, I might have guessed 20. I bet it would have been a lot more in the northeast.

Coil packs, plugs and elastic bands are all super easy DIY jobs. The coil packs can be found for about $60 each and they take all of an hour to replace. The elastic straps in the top (there are 14) can be replaced by anyone who can hold a needle in about five hours and a cost of less than $50 for supplies.

You can be happy in that you're helping keep the doors open on your local dealer. That has to be worth something.

Yes, the problem is, they are the ones who discover some of these things. So do you then say “we’ll just skip it the plugs and packs” and have them send it back? I seriously don’t know the answer to that.

Folks like me that aren’t mechanically inclined, it costs a lot more to own one of these cars, no doubt.

@Husker - You'd be surprised at how easy it is to work on the 360. The jobs I mentioned (elastics, packs, plugs) are very simple and require a minimum of mechanical ability and a minimum of tools. The coil packs require a single 10mm wrench for instance. It's a matter of drive more than ability. I suggest taking a look at the 360 DIY thread and read through some of the things folks have done by themselves to their cars and maybe you could be inspired to give it a try.

The 360 is the easiest (so far) car I've ever worked on and I've worked on quite a few. It's built to be taken apart, unlike virtually every other production line car which is essentially built to go together once.

I think the question is, how does a non-mechanical guy like me hope to diagnose why my car is missing. I could have replaced the coil packs, but what happens if that doesn’t fix it?

One thing that’s fascinating to me is the different skill sets that people have, or have an aptitude for. I know zilcho about Ferrari mechanicals or how an engine really even works, but ask me about investing in vacation rentals and I’m pretty solid. My son is a senior accounting major and loves it, while I had to change my major because I couldn’t pass accounting.

Ya, I'm an engineer who comes from a family with engineers down through history. As far as financials are concerned, all I want is a credit card that never says no. The rest my wife deals with. Without her managing all things financial, I'd be lost.

Can you break out the elastics in the top? Parts + Labor. I recently had mine done and would like to compare prices.

I looked up the u tube videos before i tackled my 430 plugs, its easy when you see others mistakes like the socket falling off the extension bar, the rubber in the socket getting stuck on the plug, the extension bar being too long or short and not being able to get the torque wrench in the small space.
I know have a socket with the rubber glued in situ, a cut down extension bar welded to the socket and enough room to get my torque wrench in . Other peoples are problems are great !!

    He said:

In the Bay area, five ferrari mechanic hours is $1,250, plus $50 parts (I think its more), so about $1,300 for the elastics.

We bought it last may with 18,000 miles on it. A 2018, red with red. She has it at college, which I had some trepidation about. But so far it's been a really good car. It has a turbo 4 cylinder. I got to looking at the warranty and it expires in July, sooner than I thought. I'll probably extend it, but I don't think this is any sort of exotic to work on, any more than a Honda or Nissan. I'm not sure why Consumer Reports doesn't like the cars. The workmanship fees quite good and we haven't had a problem.

Wow, I've done all that and (much) more and don't think I've spent near that much the entire time I've owned the car...:D

I understand the "Ferrari tax" but sometimes it's just stupid. There was a guy on facebook that said Ferrari quoted him $1700 just to replace the same crappy battery terminal clamp that failed to begin with. Just ridiculous...

Last couple of 360's we have had in...have hit the 20 mark.pretty fast. Seems the value increase in the cars has made people more comfortable spending a bit to bring them back to life. Fixing up a lot of deferred maintenance issues.
