Ain't no party without Fred But that car. Few things stand out as much in my childhood memories as that car - and Sally's butt. That car has played a major role in me becoming a car guy. The Y82 was one of the best looking specs for any F-body. Definitely the only old school muscle car to have some Euro flair in its design, and the Y82 option made it perfect. Yeah I actually had one- 77 6.6 manual- But is was gold so not full Bandit experience- Still badass- Went to prom in it Then bought an 81 in full Bandit colors but was an auto and rather weak 4.9 but was still badass at the time. Funny- Just last year I went on a search for a proper 77 6.6 manual in full Bandit colors and the few I found were either crazy money or someone had swapped exhaust and no cats- And we still have stupid emissions in CO So I passed- But still looking!!!! Cheers
I think I would take the Tesla. Driving manual gearbox in heavy traffic day in and day out would get old pretty fast. Ferrari's are fun..but a 360 manual car would not be much fun as an everyday car.
Depends on the individual I suppose. 85 mile round trip/day commute driving manual trans for years. (tried auto S class and back to rowing gears)
Absolutely would take the Modena. Probably doesn't mean much because if given the choice would also take a manual trans 1984 Golf GTI
I would take the Tesla because the kids wouldn't like having to sit on top of each other in the passenger seat. My weekly grocery hall won't fit in the 360 either, nor will the 10' pieces of pipe I picked up from Lowes this weekend.
Easy. 360 all day long. aforementioned issues of driving in traffic with a manual? Done it before, will do it again. Never bothered me. I don't have kids. and shopping isn't that much. If I did, I'd spend an extra 10K for a nicely sorted E38 7 series or keep my X5... If this is somehow cheating and can only have 1 car, and I'd need the space etc...FF then. But then it's not a realistic scenario as the aforementioned 10K E38 isn't that big a deal compared to a 150K manual 360/Tesla whatever.
360 of course. I daily drove our “mule” for a year and it was flawless. Took it everywhere from the grocery store to Home Depot. Put a smile on my face every time even while sitting in traffic. It had a Capristo exhaust that got thumbs ups and cheers from everyone. Not a single person asked how fast it was.
Not that long ago.... 1978 Pontiac Trans Am It was almost too tempting, but someone else did eventually grab it before I did.
Respectfully disagree FWIW Beyond my DD I drive all my cars (weather permitting) at least weekly and usually in traffic for at least a (large) portion of the drive: VW Jetta - DD - Manual 2022 Jeep Rubicon (will be DD - trading Jetta) - Manual 1995 355 GTS - Manual 2018 911 GT3 Touring - Manual 2016 SRT Challenger Hellcat - Manual 2018 458 Spider - DCT (if they made them in manuals I would have bought one). I had a 2000 360 F1 and traded it for a 2005 911 C4S strictly because the sloppy, jerky, annoying F1 transmission. Different strokes - I will say the 458 DCT is magical - BUT would still prefer a manual if I had the choice
I must be the odd guy out, but I would rather drive my plaid than 458 or 360 stick for daily driver routine. I live literally on Mulholland highway and have driven the canyons for decades, where the fcars shine. On the freeway and around town, plaid all the way. Just to give u folks an example, when I pick my 10 year old daughter from school in the fcars, kids on many occasions have asked if it was the new Tesla. Also, I leave my plaid in the driveway, and folks and kids walking by stop and admire it, for what it’s worth. I think there may be a correlation between age and affinity towards EVs, specifically the plaid, with younger folks thinking it’s the future and ice is the past. I personally straddle the line. If u have an opportunity to drive one, it may warm u up to one. Either way, it is my opinion that BEV is the future if not the present.
Remember, all the young people in the 50’s absolutely believed that asbestos was the future… Image Unavailable, Please Login
No, I don’t remember what took place 70 years ago! I’m in my early 40s. Pointing out one non correlated example does not change what’s going on with ICE vehicles, especially as the gas prices rise. Is it ur position that BEVs will go the way of asbestos?
I don’t know, I used to live across the street from an elementary school and every time I drove by during recess every single kid would be pressed up against the fence screaming “Ferrari!!!”. I recently picked up son from his high school in a 488 and it drew a big crowd of admirers. Not a single one confused it with a Tesla. IMO it has nothing to do with ICE vs. EV, exotics simply turn heads. Tesla just isn’t there yet. All their cars look the same and are very conservative. When they eventually come out with an exotic, inspired design it will probably get the same reaction.
Ferrari's next ultra car is 100% electric and coming out in a short 3 years. Walk + Chew Gum. I admit I don't know 100% it will still turn heads. But I bet it will....
I mean, electric cars have been around for over 100 years... I would think we would know by now if there are some ill health affects from the electric motors.
I hope so. Another interesting thing to consider is the future collector/concours market. Who in their right mind will be long term collectors of these cars? At the rate that computer gadgetry changes can you imagine wanting to own a 30 year old Ferrari EV? At least a 250 SWB can still be easily maintained and worked on due to their simplicity. People love to point out the EV's have less moving parts but that is offset by the amount of complex closed computer systems. Good luck trying to trouble shoot or fix that on your own.
Maserati unveiled its 1,200 hp Gran Turismo today https://www.autoweek.com/news/green-cars/a39458407/maserati-details-all-electric-future/ As Ferris Bueller says - the world moves pretty fast, if you don't stop and take a look around, you might miss it. I get it, folks hate the fake sound. Just like they hate fake leather, deodorant, perfume, scented candles, TV, radios, diet coke, costume jewelry, digital clocks, posters, Astro-turf, farmed meat.....
two possibilities: Will this car be a daily driver? If yes, Tesla Plaid S. The 360manual simply isn't a good DD. is this the only time I get to drive the car? already own a 360CS. the 360Manual probably drive/sounds/handles like the CS. Never driven a Tesla Plaid. Don't know what sub 2 second 0-60 feels like. wouldn't mind testing that out for a day. also, that steering wheel... Just like KITT from Knight Rider. still the Plaid S.
