I have a significantly chipped front rotor. I am considering buying Surface Transforms...but the wait is 6-8 weeks on production. Then I found some new oem listed front rotors from this seller at a similar price:

Any experience here with this seller and how he obtains new oem rotors for the 458?

    Regards,
    Lance

Get the ST rotors. Far above the OEM in terms of durability and technology. Well worth the wait.

Problem is, are there stress cracks further in? Sure you can blend it, buf is it enough?

I have seen far worse rotors on the racetracks (if they were not replaced by steel rotors)

    Go drive it ...

The CMC discs begin life as a bunch of fibers, which are then sintered together under high heat/loads. So the nature of the internal fibers and how they are bridged tends to mitigate crack propagation in a lot of ways. Moreover, I think if there were any cracks serious enough to really worry about, the disc would have probably already disintegrated. Ceramics and carbon fibers are strong, but once something goes off track, they fracture or shatter pretty abruptly.

Frankly, I'd be more worried about the edge of those all holes drilled through the discs :) Those sharp 90 degree / non-chamfered edges of all the holes are probably more worrisome stress risers if you ask me.

I'm not making any recommendations to run the disc or not. Just saying if it were me, I'd probably take my chances and just keep an eye on it for a while.

Could it be from contact with rim during mounting?
