Ferrari engine finally unrestricted after years in the purgatory? The best improving teams since last year.
The issue appears to be Mercedes have too much aero as the car is bouncing in the fast turns and on the straights. Might take a few races to figure this out but word is they have a floor coming, date tbd Really glad to see Haas make such a jump. Amazing what they have done with such a small team. Quality
I believe that they were running two different floor configurations yesterday. MB mirrors ingenious but illegal IMO.
Mercedes won't be able to keep that pace during the race; their car is too uncomfortable to drive. Yeah, well done Haas, the team some had already buried. Loosing their sponsor may have been a blessing in disguise. Every cloud has a silver lining.
unless there has been a clear directive from the MIA regarding what makes the mirrors legal (I may have missed it) I would protest it. That way the MIA would have to get into specifics so that other teams may copy it.
Spare a thought for dear misguided, talentless Nikita. All those podiums he’ll believe he could have had…
I understand that all design are submitted to the Technical Commision before the season starts. If the FIA hasn't objected, they are deemed legal? The fun will start if another team protest them.
I suspect the early sessions mean nothing for the season. Teams are still adapting to the new rules, despite "testing". More ground effects with less "give" in the tires means teams are still figuring out how much play to put in the suspensions.
Not in a million years !! His father wanted to have a F1 team, like oligarchs have a yacht, or a football team, because having assets in the West make them look big at home. Until recently, heir lifestyle was splattered on Russian media to demonstrate how important and civilised they are compared to their compatriots.
Perez and Sainz are probably testing for longer runs, while Max and Leclerc are pushing to see where they are for qualifying runs. I find it absolutely hilarious that some got ecstatic over Russel's flat out run, which could only manage 4 tenths off of Max's time. Just insufferable. FFS, the British announcers just have zero control over their bias. They just can't handle their drivers not looking like elites, when they don't have cars that are 7 tenths faster than their closest competition. Red Bull are just a hair quicker than us at the moment, but Ferrari, and particularly, Leclerc, are right there with them should they make any mistakes. Being less than a tenth off the fastest time (so far) isn't bad for a time that was 7th in the WCC just two years ago.
The best development for Ferrari, imho, is the engine department turn around. We definitely have the best engine at this point, and there's no doubt it's going to be reliable. That's big because in years past the 30bhp to Mercedes just killed us in 2017 and 2018. Never stood a chance. Now, that's out of the way, and we've got a car that's probably going to be pole level pace each weekend.
It's not only the engine; the Ferrari looks well balanced overall. Pity that Leclerc still makes mistakes.
