None of those things make the 296 more fun. How fast do you really need to go? How fast CAN you actually go? The GT4RS will go down in history as one of the five best Porsches of all time. Sadly the one piece of outdated technology it doesn’t have is an extra pedal. Then it would be perfect (albeit slower). It’s in no way a comparison to the 296, of course. The point is that technology and increased speed (and weight) have sapped some fun out of all modern cars. And it may be more expensive now … in ten years not so much. There aren’t many production cars these days that would qualify as an investment. This is one of them.

    this.

the car is £150,000 cheaper than the 296 and has outdated technology yet look at the reaction to people driving it vs the 296, they are having a lot more fun :)

What I find so disingenuous about the reviews of the 296 is how all the reviewers are aghast with excitement about switching the car into silent EV mode like it's this unbelievable feat. First off, there's nothing fun to drive about that. Secondly, I could do it in my i8 in 2016. What I was expecting is that the reviewers would describe race mode as brutal in performance. Instead a heard a lot of words like "smooth" or "integrated". I don't know. It's strange to me. It's a car I need to drive before I'd buy.

    I love the looks though.

Yeah, I don't even consider that silent mode as a feature. More of an oddity and a gimmick. No need, do not want.

I see a lot of disappointment in the comments about 296 but unfortunately that's the reality, european politicians want to ban petrol engines by 2035, rumors say that successor of Lamborgini Huracan will have turbo V8 from Urus. I don't like turbo engines but I know when we willl have turbo/hybrid Ferrari it will be always better than turbo/hybrid Lamborghini

  13. I think the 4RS would've won had it not been for the 765LT.

A preponderance of the 296 reviews express respect for the car but there exists a lack of excitement on the part of the magazines. The driving dynamics and capabilities comport with expectations but do not engender unleashed raves of emotional exuberance. Similar response to the car’s design aesthetic. The 296 is overall an attractive car that is well resolved but it is not breathtakingly stunning. Ferrari has succeeded with their mission. The 296 is sufficiently appealing to Ferrari loyalists to make a purchase. Porsche and Mclaren owners will be reticent with the exception of those who are car collectors.

Would you ever of thought that in a car of the year contest, a Porsche Cayman would be chosen over the latest and greatest Ferrari ? Unthinkable.

Media always love cayman. Im extremely curious to see how new gt3rs does in these media comparisons. Could be best drivers car ever or failure as too uncomfortable and overly comples

The 296 will undoubtedly put a smile on your face. The 765 will send chills down your spine as you become giddy with excitement.

Unfortunately technology is often the enemy of emotional connection and human passion resulting in experiences that become sterile and vapid. Objective technical advancement that is unfettered and takes on paramount importance will ultimately and inevitably minimize subjective satisfaction.

In full agreement with these comments.
But it clearly reveals to the extent these reviewers are avoiding the salient issue of driving dynamics and instead are distracting the reader with trivialities.

Would be interesting to have some objective measurements though. I totally get it that g forces are not the beginning and end of all, but some people like them nonetheless. Subjective judgements are all well and dandy, but they remain subjective.

Objective measurements do not exist, because they are a concentration of sensations behind the wheel and fluctuate according to each person.
I consider "emotion, feedback and the pleasure of the senses" to be essential when putting so much money into a car.
If the account is not there, the car is simply not good.
Never mind the acceleration in a straight line, which often flatters only those who are at a standstill in the corners.

I am guessing you are confusing objective with subjective. Objective is something that can be measured. Subjective is the "feeling".
My feeling might be different to yours, but a V-Box tells the objective truth, no matter what.

Precisely, there is nothing objective in the purchase of a Ferrari, it is totally irrational because it is essentially passionate.
The figures are currently, given the level of power... only marketing.
Objective is for racing cars and professionals.
Road Ferraris are just for fun

Performance matters. That's the reason that current Ferraris don't have 400 HP, like in the '80s... Perhaps your idea of a Ferrari is a Lotus. The Emira has half the power and costs 1/4 of what the 296 does. Nice little sports car, not Ferrari territory though.

Realzeus has no concept of a super car evoking a heightened sensation of driving exhilaration since he does not own a super car nor does he drive them. His interest in these cars is purely academic and theoretical. His comments are essentially worthless.
