Add this to the long list of gremlins on modern Ferraris. Windows and values on 456s. Values and manifolds on 355s. Hoses and motor mounts on 550s. And on and on and on. Many of these problems are not design issues, just cheap ass parts.

I just read the whole thread. Stumbled on it. Lots of thoughts, opinions, complaints and solutions.

The gentleman in Denver alone(ish) should have the car picked up and delivered. I would never spend 4 hours to go 40 miles! Uber should go the entire way back. Why is everyone always trying to save money - life is too short to worry about how to drop Ferrai at shop.

I also have plenty of cars - hoopties, daily’s and Ferrari’s. Wife has two cars, I have 4 cars, plus the collectibles. I have what I need to do the particular job or desire. I wrench on my own some and I pay for other stuff. And most of it is not expensive, I just don’t want to be dependent on anyone or anything else. Wife has a back up since she doesn’t like driving my cars.

Just a crazy complaint by the OP. Very Boomer first world problem. My decision was to have an excessive amount of cars, but not hoard or store up cars. Have what I need to accomplish my daily needs. I also will loan cars to family or friends - the hoopties - because they are usually too cheap too, LOL.

Buy a Ferrari, daily it and have the second car be a Porsche or a Toyota/Lexus - they are the best cars made, period!

What’s not to love about a Ferrari as a daily driver? let me count the ways:
    Rough roads
    Stop n go traffic
    Speed cameras
    Law enforcement
    School buses
    Landscaping trucks
    Double parked delivery vans
    Rain
    Snow
    Hail
    Tailgaters
    Left lane huggers(how appropriate)
There is alot to take the fun out of a Ferrari DD besides the maintenance, repairs and depreciation. Despite that if I could knock off a few of the road issues above I would do it in heart beat…but unfortunately:

I DDed a MB SL65 and later an AMG SLS GT in the pothole ridden NYC environment. SL65- 18 rims and 24 tires- towed 4 times(no spare!)- but got a loaner each time.
SLS GT- tires and rims lasted 3 years but the suspension subframe failed at 27K mikes and took 4 visits to correct the problem (and 30k covered under warranty)and tranny failed at 30k miles(56k to replace under warranty)- got a loaner each time. Dumped the car before warranty expired.
Moral of the story- buy something more appropriate for your driving conditions as a DD. It may not be as much fun. Frankly I get just as many grins driving my lifted Jeep Wrangler which laughs at potholes, rain, snow, occasional downed trees and street flooding and is running strong at 85K miles.
As for Ferraris in NYC- I fear more pedestrians who will key your car out of jealousy or to punish you for not being climate conscious.
Parking garages you can trust are few and far between.

What's good about DD a Ferrari?

When you take your daughter to her middleschool in a different Ferrari everyday, all the boys like your Daddy's cars.

Agree with the above points. Daily driving of a Ferrari can be done by people with the money, time and space (for other cars) when, not if, your Ferrari is out of service for extended periods.

If those things bother you, like they do me, there is Porsche.

As for premature failing parts and Ferrari not standing behinds it’s product, that is an age old complaint. It is not right, but not going to change. Despite it being “unacceptable” we still love our cars and Ferrari sells every one they make. It has to be an understood part of our hobby/passion before we step foot in it.

Independent testing as well as my own experience tell the 488 is faster.
"Better track car" as more reliable, less expensive to run, easier to drive and so on, is another matter.

I have to chime in here. So most of us here (I would probably guess 98%of us) have many vehicles to drive. Many.

My point is this. If you daily drive a ferrari, and it breaks down...and you complain.

Isn't it the same or worse if you weekend drive a Ferrari and it breaks down...you would complain even more. And we can agree that any car driven less is MORE prone to failure.

It does suck what's going on with your FF, but is sounds like you don't have the stomach for Ferrari, Lamborghini, Mclaren, etc.

I have owned many many brands from regular to higher end (including Porsche), and the bottom line is these are machines...some break and some last forever.

Go to any forum from corvette to maserati, to mustang to mercedes to lamborghini to jaguar to mclaren to whatever and all the accolades, complaints and sentiments are the same!

Wow! Life is a real ***** when you have two Ferraris and you can’t get a loaner for free. :) How dare they!!!

You can’t be serious. I think you’re just trying to fire us up.

Quit your whining and rent a car like the rest of us. :) Or get a Corolla with the spare change from your sofa. :)

@OP these issues are not unique to Ferrari. BMW’s, Mercedes, Range Rover and even Porsche have issues. All of these brands also have varying degrees of sh!tty dealers. My local Porsche dealer is an abomination. I’m not fond of my Ferrari dealer either so I don’t buy my cars from them but their service manager is good and always takes good care of me. Never had a loaner from them but I never expected to have a loaner.

You’re clearly disappointed with the brand and/or your dealer so the best thing to do is to vote with your dollars. Perhaps you should write a letter to FNA letting them know the issue you’re having to see if they try and remedy the situation. It very well could be that the dealer is not helping you out and this isn’t coming from the factory. If you still don’t get the response you’re looking for sell your cars, leave the brand for good and just stick to the brand you’re fond of and can count in, Porsche.

A Ferrari is work to drive. Anything past about 30 minutes in my 360 isn’t that much fun. It’s a toy to putter around in some, park in the driveway or garage, and admire. Put it in a local car show to help raise funds for a worthwhile cause. A conversational piece for the house guests. Rolling art. There is a whole lot to love about Ferrari ownership.

But if you held a gun to my head and said “choose the land cruiser or Ferrari as your only car”, that wouldn’t even be a decision. Land Cruiser X 100.

I think you guys don't get the point of the service.... Its a freakin hassle all the time to get the car fixed or serviced. As a daily, you need the service that goes with it. Its a hassle going to hertz to rent yourself a car, return it, wait for the dealer to come pick u up, drop you off at home. With any other company, you get a courtesy car, you drop your car and leave with another. The should rent a car out of pocket and have it ready for me for repairs that last over 1 day. In addition, they rarely have parts in stock, so parts need to come from italy and take 5 days to get to your dealer.

You must have a bad dealer then. Every single dealer here from Honda to Ferrari has rental car connection so that you can have a rental pickup and drop off at the dealer if they don’t have a loaner.

When I took my Alfa in for service to the local Ferrari dealer the had an Uber waiting for me. They offered a rental too.

IMO it not a fault of the brand. It’s your particular dealers shortcoming.

again, Paul wins! The argument he laid is exactly what I will say. Lack of loaner is a dealer issue. A wire issue for a 8 year old not covered by Ferrari will be similar to that of Porsche or any other brand. You think Porsche is most reliable? I had my both GT3 and GT4 engines replaced. Can't wait to hear you whine about the games Porsche dealers play.

41 years old are not boomer. It's millennials which carries a connotated sense of entitlement, as we see here. I also have a 458, and my wife a FF which she recently sold. I paid $500 for a broken plastic button, which I am sure many people would complaint, especially the fact that both cars are under extended warranty the whole time. But we just paid and move on. $5000 for a corroded wire while you live in snow, and they are not covering!? Sorry I don't think your venting here is getting much of resonance but simply adding to the image of millennials.

Courtesy vehicle? Yes, my other car.

Good luck with Porsche. And your saying of GT3RS and GT2 are faster than 488 add no validity of your original argument against Ferrari as a brand.

I am not defending Ferrari as a brand, but I think your post is reeking sense of entitlement that I am annoyed by.
