I put 400 kms on it which is my standard test drive total before I like to release a restoration. Im not sure how many kms it saw after that.

Good morning Paul, I saw 51803 "truly spectacular" well done. I'm always perplex the way the speedometer shows in miles, while the inner ring is in km. Yet the mileage reading from the ad mentions it in km ( like many others cars for sale) Is the only way to know to actually drive the car from point A to point B or are they all in km like the originals coming out from factory ??
    Cheers Anthony

Most speedometers register speed in kph only and depending on year of boxer they read 300, 320 or 330kph, some both kph and mph. 51803 showed both on the dial but the odometer read kms when I drove it and it was a factory dial. When a car is DOT converted they overlay a mph dial (decal) in some cases. As far as I know the odometer still reads kms with the mph overlay for speed.

I had to calibrate a speedometer once which required a tone generator, an antique oscilloscope (which is collecting dust in my basement), patience and time. I can't see a conversion shop doing that.

Congrats on the boxer sale Paul...hard to believe my yellow 308 only cost 80kCa and was restored to that same very high standard by yourself a good handful of years ago already. The best part is that I have had no issues whatsoever with your work. It remains drop dead gorgeous and runs like a top...really a blast to drive with the 3.4 upgrade. I manage to put about 1,000km. per season on it (have 2 other Fcars and harley bike competing for my attention in our short Canadian driving season). The test of time has been met and passed with flying colors! Cheers, Bernie.

Thanks Bernie! I was talking to someone last week about your car and the amount ($79K Canadian), those days are long gone.

The new owner of 51803 reached out to me this afternoon to discuss the car. He's very happy and plans to have it judged at Cavallino in January. Im looking forward to the results! Hero or Zero for me lol

    Hi Paul,
I pointed this BBi some days ago and wondered how the sale would come with this highest level of detail.
So the resto is yours...of course!
Congrats for this work, with a justified quotation step up.
BTW, just to update you on my problem of distributor/backfiring, my mechanic review all K-jetronic and there is no more backfiring. But still the engine stalls very often (even between 3 and 2 gear) with high idle 1300 RPM (while OK at 1000RPM when tested by the garage). And "pumping" of RPM. May be still a problem of depression sensor/control. Will go back to garage...
    Regards,
    Jean-Paul

    Hi Paul,
    Followed previous message:
BTW, looking to the pics, one question about the fuel filler cap.
on your resto, it is a lockable cap since the door is "free".
My #41507, 1982, has a lockable door (which was an option, I suppose) and a black cap with a "grip bar" (pic attached).
Indeed no need of the yellow lockable cap due to door lock, but I am afraid the right cap is a black one, flat without this grip bar, as the one I saw in the earlier 512 BB.
Do you confirm? If you agree, where can I find this simple item?
    Thanks a lot,
    Jean-Paul

I haven't seen enough examples to draw a conclusion but so far I've only seen 1982 models with the optional external lock barrel in the clamshell. The ones I've seen have had the smooth black gas cap like yours minus the raised rib which would be the same as a 308 or 400 from the same time period. I've also seen a lock barrel on a 365 in the door itself with a tab on the clamshell for the lock to engage with.

Thanks Paul for this confirmation that the fuel cap is the one with plain black cover, without rib.
But, after search on eBay & Internet, not easy to find because many caps offered do present a valve in the center which is not convenient.
So, patience, to find the right one...
    Thanks again,
    Jean-Paul
