The Purosangue without the actual Ferrari branding and logo on it would have sold exactly zero point zero units.

When they were in charge of it, Ferrari should have developed the Maserati brand to have allowed diversification and production increase while maintaining Ferrari's exclusivity and integrity.
The brilliant management of Ferrari at the time did a so bad job with Maserati that Fiat took it back, leaving Ferrari with no alternative option than brand dilution for achieving company growth.

    Hmmm.

To some extent perhaps. Just like there are Ford guys and Chevy guys. Some people cannot imagine any reason to buy the PS other than pure fanboy status. I think that is odd.

Regardless it will sell like hot cakes and will make the Urus(Audi RSQ8) look a bit less exotic.
So when you are a Premier League athlete, the PS is the one to have.
Not the ordinary Urus which common folk can obtain.

First off, appreciate the the civility of this debate…missing too much today online. I would also respect respectfully disagree. Enzo’s car of choice for many, many years….330 Gt 2+2. Not loved, in fact much the opposite by the press and was probably equally disliked by many fans. The old man could have driven anything they produced and this was his choice. Not only that, he was chauffeured later in life. My point simply being, Ferrari’s history is has shown that people and luggage carrying has been part of their past, with a sublime v12 to get you there. Rumor is that the FF came bout so that LdM and his buddies could golf and have a proper Ferrari to exactly the above. Just my 2 cents.

As with the Dino-badge cars, the Purosangue without the Cavalino Rampante emblem could eventually have been a sales success if only some of the same assumptions were maintained. To begin with the conception and design would have to be innovative and the engine genuinely Ferrari in order to guarantee a performance, especially on the road, superior to that of any other existing super SUV. Without the Ferrari emblem, sales success would depend a lot on the price, which would have to be lower than that of a real Ferrari. However, it could generate unprecedented production numbers and the profits that Ferrari so desperately seeks for its shareholders.
Some of the aspects that have been enumerated about a hypothetical Ferrari SUV without the Cavalino emblem already exist in the Maserati Levante Tropheo SUV. Wouldn't it have been more sensible for Ferrari to have made a joint venture for the production and sale of the Purosangue under the Maseratti brand name?

Never mentioned to design cars of the past, the Icona series is interesting and welcome IMHO but should be limited to the three they will make. Design needs to move forward, although, should always have form language that speaks to an individual brands overall esthetic and design signature, as Ferrari mostly does.

He is not a great designer or department head, although design is subjective, there are significant design flaws in the work the studio does, if you are ever in the NYC area let me know, we can meet and I am more than happy to cretic his work in person. In fact I can grab two or three super accomplished automobile designers and we can make a day of it.

I do not agree. I think Flávio Manzoni is a great designer. The style of current cars is very cold and very angular and Ferrari is one of the few manufacturers to have curves and personality. I think the Roma, F8 Tributo or 296 GTB will spend time becoming classics. The Testarossa in its time was a daring and highly criticised design and then it quickly became a reference of the genre. Here everyone criticises Purosangue but no one has really seen it yet. Maybe let's wait before criticising its design.

The FF and Lusso are the most practical Ferraris but when push comes to shove they still rip just like any other Prancing Horse before it.

I'm not saying the PS will be trash or anything, but I can't in good conscience say it'll perform in the same way as a sedan or coupe or shooting brake would.

The F8, Roma and Monza are all extremely well done. Personally I feel the F8 is one of the best designed mid engine cars Ferrari has designed/built, masterpiece and extremely well balanced out design from every angle.

The SF90, 296, SP3 Daytona, not so much IMHO

What is the latest info on production numbers V12? Someone threw out 1000, then 1000 a year? Any update?

Ok so your argument is that since Enzo was chauffeured later in life … that makes a Ferrari SUV acceptable?

Ok maybe that wasn’t very civil.

Oops I just watched The Oscars and apparently this debate is EXTREMELY civil.

Ok here is at least one area in which you ( and anyone who shares this view ) is completely wrong.

The Purosangue is going to absolutely smash almost any high performance car around a track. Even some in Ferrari’s current and recent line up. This vehicle will have industry leading low center of gravity, several suspension and handling breakthroughs and will from a drivers perspective be like driving a 6 inch higher 812 Superfast. The driving experience is going to absolutely destroy any other SUV. To put this vehicle out on the market with a straight face, Ferrari will have pulled out all the stops in driving dynamic and this vehicle will seemingly defy the laws of physics. I predict a Fiorano lap time of less than 1 minute 25 seconds.

I actually can’t tell if you’re being serious or joking in your description of the F8 design. Anyone who really knows design can tell that the F8 is a mosh pit of disparate design elements fighting against themsleves. It’s like a Picasso painting of a crying woman. The F8 is a prime example of why nobody, not even Ferrari, can pull off using the same underlying car and platform ( 458 ) to launch ten … yes count them 10 different models and that’s just for the road cars! By the time Manzoni and team were given the remit of the F8, they had to desperately perform more contortions than cirque du soleil to try and differentiate it from the eight 458 derivatives that had gone before it!

I could go on and on but instead please avail yourself of the Design Monkey video on YouTube on the subject of the F8.

    1. None of this discussion has been about the Purosangue’s design.

    2. Actually we HAVE seen the design.

    3. Again, this debate isn’t about its design, it is about its very existence.

Would Ferrari go through the massive engineering time and expense of the V12 version to only sell 1,000 copies in total at $400k? No way.
Also, even Ferrari is not shameless enough to number limit its production to 999 units and pitch it as a collector’s item lol.

When you combine that with the clear production line constraint of around 1,000 ish V12 on top of the actual V12 sports cars they have to build over the next few years, you can back your way into this fairly reliable conclusion … they can only make around 1,000 a year and only over the next 3 or 4 years, so that means 4,000 give or take Purosangue V12 for the entire planet over its entire production run.
Think about that. That’s why I keep saying … if you even think you might want a V12 PS get down to your dealer ASAP and raise your hand high. Really high. And put down a deposit now. A year from now, maybe even 6 months from now, it could be too late.

From this post it is clear that many still do not have a grasp on why Ferrari decided to offer their own branded SUV.

Pretty sure that’s not how Ferrari works. You can go to a dealer and raise your hand all you want, check for deposit or full amount in hand. It means nothing to them. For the initial slots of Purosangue allocation Ferrari (the factory) selected people from their TOP and highest graded VIP clients and instructed dealers to contact them to offer a slot. Interested folks sign a form and pay a deposit, then wait for official launch, configurator, and order banks to open allocations to process early orders and distribute cars. If you’re not one of the names Ferrari had on their list you’re not getting one anytime soon, if at all for the v12 version. When the official launch happens dealers will begin taking names and deposits but it’s no guarantee for an allocation or which specific version you might get. Moreover there is no assurance the V12 will be built past the launch cars, so later people may get the v6tt or even the EV version if/when it materializes. Looking at the next 3 years of production being sold through plus the Purosangue plans it seems tremendously unlikely they’re going to produce high volumes of these cars in the next three years, and considering the precariousness of the v12 going forward even in the near term the idea that engine will be available once pre-order allocations have been filled seems tremendously unlikely imo. That’s not to say the later v6 or EV cars won’t be available or great to have, but speaking about the 12 specifically I don’t see it working as you suggest.

When you think about all the disparate models they have to design for the current line up and make them look like Ferraris but somehow not like each other and also somehow not like Ferraris that came before but somehow still like Ferraris … nobody on Earth could be doing a better job than Manzoni and his team at Centro Stile.

Everyone is probably expecting me to push back on this post.
I will not. He’s exactly right. 100%. This is the dynamic everyone who wants a V12 PS is facing.

This is why it is so important to raise your hand right now with a deposit on it this week. TO GIVE YOURSELF A CHANCE.

If you haven’t already gotten a call or email inviting you to take a V12 PS … you’re now on the bubble at best. Of course there are no assurances. The only thing you can do to improve your chances is to get in there right quick and express serious interest.

Ever been on a waiting list for a booked restaurant or event? Where your only chance is if somebody else drops out? This could be like that.

With the 812 GTS, anyone who wanted one eventually got an allocation. That should hopefully be the way it works with the V12 PS. But the post above is correct. There are no assurances or guarantees if you’re not Top or VIP.

And here is the rub … while essentially everyone who wanted an 812 GTS got one … and it stands to reason that there was a huge pent up demand for a convertible V12 … the demand for a V12 Ferrari SUV could … conceivably … be MUCH greater than for the 812 GTS. Perhaps multiples higher. So while sell out risk before introduction is not a given, it is possible. The risk here is that the demand for the V12 PS could be many multiples of what they will ever produce … and there will be no way of knowing that until it’s too late. So if you are keen for the V12 version … get in the running now. I’ve got no vested interest in saying this, I just want those who are truly passionate about it to be able to give themselves the best chance to get one.
