Who has re-finished their subframe and came close to an OE look?

I have a slightly beat up cross member and as I was looking for a new replacement, I realized they only come in primer new, not finished in OE brownish/black. I thought that was odd. Ferrari no longer have access to this finish?

I have quite a bit of nicks in my subframe showing red marks. I will definitely need to have the whole thing re-finished during my next engine out service. Just planning ahead to see what others have done and if anyone has come remotely close to OE.

Better yet… any “touch-up” solutions in the meantime?

Thanks! The rebuilt alternator is acting up so I’m putting a new one in. Also those metal oil lines on pax side front and back of engine drip at the connection but idk how to fix that since it’s maybe the gasket inside that’s old.

Did I miss the part where you said what paint you used?

Me? It was a marine grade anti corrosion stuff. Common in military applications. A shop did it, not a rattle can. I didn’t manage the build, just bought it after!! If it’s that big of a deal, I can find specifics. I have receipts for it all. Lmk

I mean, it's not a huge deal, but the whole point of this thread is to learn how to replicate the factory subframe finish, and you posted a bunch of pictures of your subframe that appears to have had the factory finish successfully reproduced, so yeah, I think people are curious to know how it was done.

The primer was a mil-spec anti corrosion paint and the category of primer is based on days of salt water exposure. Then the top coat is a wrinkle paint black. That’s all I know. The receipt doesn’t say more specific

BTW. The first two photos I posted by Alcala are re-finished, not original. Looks close enough for me. I’d be happy with that result.
