Well, once people start thinking for themselves (vs reading unaimaginative echo articles), and realize you get a real Ferrari with all things that make a vintage Ferrari cool, higher prices make sense.

Not to mention, the Testarossa has the Mondial 8 to thank for the iconic cheesegrater design.

I think the Mondial gets a lot of undue flack. I'm not a Mondial owner, but I do own its predecessor — a 1975 308 GT4 (which has also had its share of hate). Before I bought my 308 GT4, I looked at a couple of Mondial's and was really close to buying one. The only thing that stopped me was a 308 GT4 became available and that's a car I've wanted since I was a teenager. Maybe a Mondial will be my next Ferrari. :)

The 308 GT4 is another great car. The prices of those have gone up substantially - well deserved in my opinion.

You can see Pininfarina started developing the strakes themes on the Mondial that they carried forward to the Testarossa and then the 348. There's a direct aesthetic line connecting all three cars (I am a car designer).

Well, it’s interesting b/c I feel many people under-estimate how pretty 308 GT4 is in person. I saw a black one with gold rims and it was beautiful.

This is what I enjoy about Ferrari designs - they project some lineage, you get to see these things incorporated, moved around, developed. I like that.

I couldn't agree more! Of course, I've always thought they were stunning cars since I first saw one 35 years ago. I have a real soft-spot in my heart for wedge-shaped cars. The 308 GT4 has only recently started getting the love and attention it deserves… the Mondial can't be too far behind!

Can't even get a decent Rolex Daytona for that kind of money. ;)

I always wanted a 308GT4, a genuinely nice car, and fast too.

It was actually $31K for that 83 Euro on BaT. I don't think that's a great comp. The car was sold on BaT out of the Netherlands. I think all the unknowns about getting a car from Europe may have spooked most retail buyers. I know it would have given me pause.
