Hi Everyone, I'm new on here and this is my first post. IV had my F430 spider for about 6 months now and when I bought it I always had the intention of buying an aftermarket exhaust and have whittled it down to the full IPE exhaust Including de-cat and manifolds. I'm after a little heads up hopfully from people who have or have experienced the exhaust for real as IV only heard it on videos. IV read mixed reviews with some saying it's too loud and others saying it's amazing. Also I'm trying to decide if 90degree O2 spacers will work or if it needs remapping. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated.
congratulations on your car and your 1st post! so, when my car was shipped to me, it was open headers, no pipes attached to the headers. THAT was too loud, the neighborhood shook even at idle, the neighbors had no idea what the he** was going on. you could not hear a conversation standing anywhere near the car. I have aftermarket headers, test pipes and a Kline valved exhaust which allows me to go straight pipe or through a silencer. going through the silencer, no issues, it's got a nice throaty, not too loud tone. in the spider with the top down, open valves through the straight pipe, below 3.5k rpm not too much raucous. bring it up over the 4k mark and yeah, it's loud, has an incredible, intoxicating wail, and it IS amazing. so I think the only scenario where I would say it is loud is opened up. so you're probably out on the road, moving along at a good clip. I don't see how that can be too loud because anyone who is driving an F430 over 4k rpm, is already someone who is probably looking for a thrilling drive. and if you think that is too loud, you probably think OEM is too loud too. This is all just my opinion of course Note - without cats, there is the raw gas smell when you start it up, and you may get a wiff at a stop light. personally, I have no issue with it, in fact, I think I kinda like it, smells like racing. I bought spacers but haven't put them in, I plan on getting a Mase tune first, tuning out the emissions codes and go from there. good luck! share pics!
Thanks for the reply @colorfull Really? How come it had no exhaust from the manifolds back? I bet that was crazy loud. But thanks for all the detail I really appreciate it and I think my thoughts are the same as yours when it comes to the noise and to be honest it isn't my daily car so if imagine I can enjoy the noise for longer. I'm getting some 90 degree spacers for now and then going to get it re mapped later. Do you have a management light on with yours not having a map or spacers fitted yet?
@Crazy B F430 I had a 6spd conversion done, they did some engine repairs for me, and since I knew I was removing everything from the cats back, left it all off, so when I got the car, it was open headers. It was beyond loud, it was just a monster sound, it was actually pretty cool, but nothing you'd ever want on a daily basis in a normal neighborhood. Interesting on the CEL/management light. When I first put the test pipes and exhaust on, I did have a CEL and an O2 code on my ThinkDiag tool. I've replaced MAF's and upstream O2 sensors and at some point along the way, the light stopped showing on the dash, and no O2 code on the ThinkDiag. I didn't think it was possible to have no cats and no light, but this seems to be the situation, unless I just haven't driven it enough and it will eventually re-emerge. I'm gonna see if I can run it through inspection in NJ just to see if it passes, but still planning on mapping the codes out just the same. I just listened to the IPE on their website video, sounds pretty feakin' amazing!
John, I have the same setup. Interesting that you don't get a CEL light. I would advise the Mase tune...you're probably running lean.
I did initially, then it went away....yes, thank you, I've already got my down payment in, just working on timing to get it done.
@ Ah really? That is Interestinf how you haven't got the light on. I have got some 90 degree spacers coming but I think I will get the tune done. Id love to try a 6 speed manual, how do you find it compared to the auto?
boy, what a question I have posted about that many, many times, as have many others, please PM me if you like about 6spd, I'd be happy to share
I have a full IPE exhaust on mine but with their sport cats. It sounds amazing with the right F1-pitch. It can also sound stock on low revs and idle if i close the valves. Very nice system and totally worth the money.
Nice! That's exactly what I'm after, especially with it being a spider I don't want to be wearing ear protection all the time lol.
I had Top Speed headers with stock cats and a Tubi dial muffler exhaust before. That was horrible in every circumstance.
So what made it so bad. Was it the top speed headers or the Tubi dial muffler. I guess I'm wondering if there Was a different muffler on it would it had been acceptable
The TS headers caused a deep tone similar to a boxer engine or a muscle V8 and messed up the Ferrari sound. I have heard TS headers coupled with S-Line and it’s the same issue there on low revs.
I had Agency Power headers and everything else stock on my F430 coupe and it had the same deep tone growl that your referring to. I didn't like it at all. So on my new to me 07 spider I'm not sure what im going to do yet for headers/exhaust
I’ve heard AP headers coupled with S-Line and it sounds much better then TS coupled with S-Line. IPE also has the 4-1 design and it sounds good. Just something about the TS headers.
Sounds like you've been around the block when it comes to exhausts for these things, I'm going to order the full IPE system with manifolds and de-cat can't wait
You can say that yes. You will get that high F1 pitch with the IPE but also valves to quiet it down and no drone. It’s really one of the best options for the F430.
You guys have thoughts on Fabspeed headers and either IPE or Tubi keeping the stock cats? I’m concerned about neighbors…. Sent from my iPhone using FerrariChat
Don't worry about the neighbours I'm not haha, unless your planning on sitting revving it or flying up and down the street I'm sure they will understand... In an ideal world
If you have in the uk and its that loud you are not going to get it through an MOT, besides which with the cats removed it is not going be legal anyway. Mine has the Capristo with no valves and that is enough .
Its fine on Auto in built up areas, i still have the oem cats so it can never get to silly noise levels. If you use the gearbox in manual and press on, it does increase the volumn. The twin chamber capristo has a tone off its own. Having seen a video of a de cat 430, you could not give me one- just plain dreadful noise.
Has anyone else gone the full IPE exhaust route, and if so how is the sound? I'm also curious if this would pass smog in CA. I'm guessing not..
