Some crazy high sales this week: $138K https://www.pcarmarket.com/auction/1989-ferrari-328/ $147K https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-ferrari-328-gts-23/ I've only owned my 328 since October and I am shocked by some of the recent prices. It was dumb but fortunate luck I bought one when I did. Back in October I can remember griping about $110K-115K sales and that was nothing it seems. Crazy.
The second one one BAT is particularly well documented, with engine number, gearbox number, paintmeter reads, compressions, etc... (And, to nitpick: the tool roll is not correct: it has screwdrivers from a carbed car = add about $ 500 for the correct screwdrivers; and the pouch for the books is "wrong" = not period correct, comes from the late '90s, 550/360 type; add $ 250 for the correct pouch, more for a "burgundy" one, which were often delivered with the '89 models) Rgds
Funny and sad at the same time... "The vehicle comes with a clean Carfax and is equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission, power windows, and 5-spoke wheels. https://www.ebay.com/itm/224875769407?hash=item345ba3ee3f:g:1qgAAOSwHXFiJvxn
It looks I did a good move with buying another "328" turbo last month, after selling my previous one some months ago. My tip: instead of buying a 140 k very common 328, maybe better buying a bit cheaper and much more rare "328" turbo aka "GTB/GTS turbo" Ciao
A sad sight indeed; well, at least, if someone is crazy enough to start a restauration (frankly, that wouldn't make much sense) seems that it still has the front foglights...the most expensive parts. But missing almost everything else; wonder what's the story behind, to end in such a sorry state? Rgds
Sure looks like a theft recovery or else a a car with a blown engine that someone decided to part out. This would be an expensive challenge to bring back!
Another 328GTS sold on BaT over $100.000 : $115.000 today. Four 328 sold last three week on this place. Waiting for the Black GTB from Sheehan ...
It’s already been removed from the available list. Sure looks like a lot parts to bring back to life.
IMHO there is no such thing as an off colour anymore. Some buyers will specifically look for any colour but red. The GTB usually brings more money to the table though. But how much more? It really depends on how bad the buyer wants the car. Condition, mileage and originality are key. Fewer GTB's were built. There are two cars I'm watching on BaT that are ending in a few days. a black GTB and a red GTS. https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-ferrari-328-gtb-5/ current bid - $168,500 ends today https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1987-ferrari-328-gts-36/ current Bid: $79,000 ends in 5 days The GTB is newer with fewer miles - has ABS. You can't really compare these two cars as a definitive answer to your question as they are really two different beasts. You will have to study the market very closely.
Thanks ragtop1 - my car is well-sorted, (just came out of Scuderia Rampante), original, US car, one of two in NA in it's argento/rossa combo.. car has 64K ± - miles. Was in a fender bender back in, as nearly as we can tell, in '89. Car is a driver's car, not one for show, though it would likely do fine an a small show. For those curious it's 076514. I'm 80+ years old and it's harder and harder for me to get in an out of...
Indeed that is rare colour combo and also know only one other US 328 GTB in Argento with Rosso interior. ( No more in Europe ) Concerning market price, the other car ( #75912 ) was sold $122.500 in 2017 by Gooding and then $84.000 in 2019 by Gooding ! What will be the hammer price in 2022 ? More than $160.000 as the Black sheehan on Bat ? Less ?
Holy crap!!! SOLD for $320,000 https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-ferrari-328-gtb-5/#comments-anchor
Apparently, this was the only Black on black 328 in North America. But holy hell ! hang on to your hats gentlemen ! https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1989-ferrari-328-gtb-5/
Well that's 100% not true because I owned a 1988.5 328GTB that was also black on black for 7 years. It's s/n 77068. So how does someone say that’s the only black/black one? And I know that mine wasn’t one of two, either. There were more. I wish people would just be truthful about this stuff. I was bidding on Colleen’s black one as well today. Man, I really got carried away— was not displeased when the final bid came in. Beautiful, special car but I need to exercise more self control LOL.
It was crazy. Colleen (who found my Dino for me) told me the buyer has more money than god, would have spent even more money for the car and that the car will go to Florida.
It takes MORE than one person with more money than GOD to make an auction- it takes TWO people. OR it simply takes someone who really wants a car. I have a white low miles 328GTB with a very rare interior, so it's interesting to see a car like this sell for crazy money. Doesn't make a person want to sell their car though, because at this point who wants a pile of cash- much better to just keep the cars. So is this auction a fluke, or did the new standard get set for low miles 328GTB's? MORE money than a similar shape Testarossa of the same vintage! I'm kind of shocked.
You sure flirted with that one right up to the end! I'm not sure what to think about the final price. I noticed that ***************** bid up to about $200K and then dropped off, and that is probably a good data point in terms of sensibility. I did find it humorous that this 328 appeared to have a bent hood, like so many 308/328 do. Even at $320K I guess you can't avoid this.
Sorry, but that can't be for the "usual reason": the hood strut was "redesigned" (in a way) to avoid precisely that. 328s do not have a strut with a mechanical stop as 308s, but a simple gas strut without any stop, so the hood cannot be bent when someone forgets to release the stop, because there isn't any. You just lift the Hood one inch, and it closes; it can't be bent through the hood stop... Rgds
