I would like a Gruppe M intake, but the price has kept a "want," (and not a "need"), at bay.

Gruppe M would entertain providing a group buy. Discount depends on number ordered. Perhaps this would attract others and it would be great to see a show of hands. This would apply to both 2.7 and 5.2 owners.

Either post here or PM me if you would like to participate.

I don't get why people spend $$$$$ for a minuscule horsepower increase on a car that's never going to be fast by contemporary standards. If you want something to blow the doors off everything on the road, get a turbo BMW or whatever and throw a tune on it and you're done. Also, the intake looks horrendous.

The intake is for dick swinging in the parking lot. That's all. It does nothing.

    I agree.

Except for the addition of Tubi exhaust manifolds and a minor tune/adjustment, my 1995 F355 Challenge is as it raced in the Ferrari Challenge Series. Sometimes I share the track with Porsches like these...

Yes, they're faster on the straights but we corner at similar speeds.

Forget looks or performance - if it improves sound of an already glorious V8, that would be the main reason.

Agreed! I am a purist so I am not interested but the Gruppe M 2.7 intake is a work of art.

Ironically, the 5.2 version looks like a huge nutsack :). I like how it looks. I'm actually iffy about the look on the 2.7 version. I prefer the look of the 2.7 stock boxes.

Here's the only dyno (kinda) info I could find on the 5.2 version.

    http://www.nsxfiles.com/f355_update.htm

"We had an NSX Dyno day a couple of months ago. Wayne's F355 was in the shop, but Alex (lives locally) and Mr. O. (from Gruppe M in Japan) came down with a new hi tech, carbon fiber, dual K&N, super flow intake kit made exclusively for the F355. Now this thing is a piece of art. Since Wayne's car was broken at the time, we put the intake on my car. We dynoed before and after, and it showed a 10 hp increase at the rear wheel. Not too bad. Except that the retail price is $3000. But it looks good, you can seem to feel the response, and it does dyno well. Wayne snaps one up. Kinda like how you would buy jewelry for your supermodel to keep them happy and purring. "

Not bad considering it's on a 5.2 and the intake has a key flaw in it's design.

Turbo cars are generally faster than naturally-aspirated cars, but some people prefer the NA experience over the Turbo-experience. I have two Turbo-powered cars and I much prefer a proper NA car. Many others do as well, which is why NA cars are still being produced and sold. The same can be said with F1 vs. Manual. Why buy a manual when the F1 is faster? The experience is different .... duh.

The car doesn't have to be faster than it's contemporaries. It just has to feel adequate enough for the roads. Many cars go fast, but feel boring. Particularly turbo cars.

I believe US list is around $3,100.

What is that and can it be remedied?

If you can get it for around $2500. That is a great price. I've paid more than that directly from Japan.

Right, Ken. I can only imagine a change in induction sound with this GruppeM which would be obscured by the muffler sound. I had the chance to see the F355 Modificata driven by its owner at the Monticello Motor Club track about three years ago. It had its own unique exhaust sound, nowhere near as loud as my F355 Challenge with its Challenge silencer.

The Motronic 2.7 cars have a well-designed air intake system. The only thing done to my car to improve air intake is annual R&R of its K&N air filters. My car might have had the Challenge airbox heat shields at one time. They were not there when I bought the car ten years ago and I have no intention of installing them as they're very expensive. The muffler heat shield is of some value but I feel that air moving that fast through the stock intake system doesn't have a chance to heat up significantly.

Interested in selling those shields :)? How do they attach to the airboxes any way?

They were missing when I bought the car.

There are two halves to the shield with two metal straps looping over the top of the airbox holding them in place like this...

I've seen a couple of Challenge cars with these fiberglass shields in place. They don't look like they do much.

If I hadn't told you about those shields, you wouldn't have known they even existed.

As you can see, they're not there.

    ...why should I care?
