I know nothing about these, but am interested. Question is , was there a transkit for adding detail similar to a robustelli? For a large scale, they appear to be lacking in detail. Also, are the graphics decals or adhesive stickers?

Still have an unbuilt one buried in my closet - guess I need to roll up my sleeves now that I'm retired. I'm almost certain the graphics were decals. I used to see the kit listed occasionally on eBay and have also spotted the transkits elsewhere on the web in the past.

Thought this was an interesting thread on the model & upgrade kit > http://www.scalemotorcars.com/forum/sports-and-muscle-cars/93251-rosso-ferrari-643-1-8-question.html

you can detail up to your heart’s content. The parts look really nice.
Just so you are aware, Several customers over the years have recorded, shall we say, sub optimal purchase experiences. You can Google easily to find the issues. I have zero personal experience however.

    best regards. Mark.

I have built two of these. The original decals by now will be horrible to use, but you can find replacements on Ebay that are very good. the model its self is very nice like a large Tamiya. The upgrade kit - is not really worth it if you ask me, i have that one as well. the driver figure is nice, but will need a lot of custom work to fit well in the car. there are a lot of upgrades you can do to the engine and suspension, I used lots of reference pics and moved from the front to the back lots of hoses and connectors and wires. Once put together they are very nice. I tried one with carbon decaling for the tub and suspension, and then used a paint stencil for the suspsnsion... it came out ok, I prefer just a flat black sprayed over a semi gloss bronze to give a carbon effect.

Tom - your finished kits look awesome and give me even more incentive to roll up my sleeves .....although my model-building skills are mediocre at best. Appreciate the advice on the decals. I'm still staring at an Amalgam BAR Honda 007 that I've managed to piece back together after extensive shipping damage except for the rear wing where I have yet to come up with a strategy for getting the alignment right with all of the pieces that have to be fitted before the main wing assembly goes on. Fortunately, Sotheby's gave me a full refund so I guess no big loss if it's not perfect.

I think Amalgam models are mostly resin ? or combo of materials. they are truly stunning works of art. sadly I've not yet got an Amalgam model.. but would love one!!!!!

the Rosso kit is nowhere near as detailed as Amalgam models are... but you could get 90% there. the metal and plastics are too thick for more realism.

I'd say each Rosso kit took 2-3 weeks, mostly in prep and sanding, and paint. if you paint every part - you will get a very realistic model.

I have this model as well, it's a great one. The detailing options are endless because of the large size. It's one of the few 1/8 F1 cars that have engine detail. Though the 643 not a very winning car it has a great shape and cool tech. Highly recommended.
