I thought I wrote a thread at some pt but couldn’t find. The sound is louder and higher pitched at WOT than before and it definitely helps slightly to keep engine temps down. (Assume this would be true for all catless y-pipes) Larini build quality felt a notch or so below fabspeed offering, specifically the flange welded to the ends and the clamp parts. The hill upgrades are a must though.

The bigger change for me was the test pipes, which reduced engine temps and gave me a much nicer decel/engine brake burble. They did not yield any noticeable idle noise increase or fume issues. Still get an occasional CEL I just have to live w.

If it existed at the time (maybe it did?) I would buy the Kreissieg.

Which back box do you have? I’m hoping to finalise a deal of a 2.7 F355 shortly and looking to order exhaust parts. Cap stage 2 and remote valve. Not sure whether to go for y pipes and/or test pipes too. Can’t help thinking whilst it’s all apart get the whole lot done, but as much as I want that F1 howl, I do still want it to be bearable on a long run. Also I’d like to do what I can to improve reliability and reducing engine temps by getting rid of the cats will help some towards that I think.

I ran a Capristo with test pipes, stock Y-pipe, and stock bypass valve on a 2.7. Felt bearable to me. Actually wasn’t loud enough for normal driving conditions where the valve is constantly opening and closing. You’ll see for yourself :).

Ran the setup with bypass open and things got better, but still wasn’t loud enough for my personal taste simply because you still have to get on it to get any meaningful volume out of it. An open Y-pipe would’ve been a nice touch for increased volume.

As long as you have the bypass working , you should be fine with sound levels. Only thing you need to worry about is smell :).

Capristo stage 2. I got the y-pipe to increase the sense of occasion with the valve open- it definitely does that. I wish I could get a decent video but haven’t succeeded yet.

    2 issues it created/worsened

1- there seems to be way more booming on the highway at cruise if you drive it wrong, e.g. driving at 3500 in sixth gear then trying to accelerate- the valve will open but there’s no power so the car just makes noise- prob happened with the stock cats but much more severe here.

2- my stock valve rattles a lot more than it used to. I think the intensity of the noise/flow without cats probably just exacerbated this as well. I bot a capristo valve to install just haven’t gotten around to it.

Ken does yours shoot flames on upshift? Seriously no one has once commented on the smell for me.

Thanks for the response. Just to clarify, it was the decatting the y-pipe that caused those issues? Not decatting the primary cats?

If it did shoot flames, I never noticed it. I didn’t think it would with the stock catted Y-pipe.

Yeah was curious which exhaust path was causing it.

I believe, though someone might have to correct me, that the booming is caused by “lugging” the car through the secondary exhaust path. Easily solved by downshifting or adjusting throttle pressure, but i think it was noticeably worse with the decat.
