Yeah, I reckon. lol It's only an 800 sqm block though. The other option is to keep that dump on there now (a decent sized 4 bedroom/2 bath home) and under pin it, gut it, use the ground level as a 6 car garage and build 2x stories above it to live in. The guy next door has built 2x 4 story townhouses on his block, so I am sure I will be right to have a 3x story home beside him. I don't think it will cost any less going this way, but at least I have more garage space for all the cars.
See how many building companies are folding up now? That's scary and I am sure there are plenty more to come in the next few years.
Many/most of these free thinkers buy 'em because they think they're safer driving one because they're higher and can see above the lesser lights.... of course us proper enthusiasts know much better than that!
The 1st two I bought , a new Disco in 1997 & then the new Rangie 2003 was for one reason towing tandem trailers with a race car and spares on board as the the Benz 380SEL while capable was over her towing weight.....otherwise I would have never purchased a 4x4. The two Macans the 1st beacause the Rangie's engine needed a major overhaul and I liked the Macan as a product ,I bought the GTS spec car as I've driven my buisness partners previous modeled GTS and I like the idea of it for the long distance touring we are starting to do ..
My good deed today............... Finished the 2km swim, into the car park & woman and her 20 year old son? are struggling to put wheel on her LHS front ,so I offered to help , put the wheel on and the lady then dropped the jack and I nipped up the wheel studs..............while her son just watched US
Pap, these guys make their money by offering a cheap price for the ‘standard’ version and making up the money with variations (ie any changes). Make sure you read all the specifications very carefully to understand what EXACT fittings and finishes are included. Having said that, Metricon are among the better ‘off the plan’ builders, as far as construction quality is concerned. But the plan proves my point: garage: 40.38sqm sitting room: 23.55 sq m. Also, there is an enormous amount of circulation area in that plan, which is lower building cost (actually about the same cost as garage space) because there is no joinery or fittings (aside from limited electrical). A huge part of the cost in that plan would be the bathrooms; if you want to upgrade the selections from the ‘standard inclusions’ expect big dollars extras.
You must be feeling guilty. The tow vehicle is the bleeding obvious and should need no apology/explanation. The Porker is an unnecessary pimple on the road........except of course in the very necessary transportation of 5kg of fresh prawns, two or three cartons of premium beer, one or two bottles of distilled alcoholic beverage,a couple or three bottles of quality red wine and a packet of crisps!
Yep, builders going bankrupt due to no fault of their own except having signed fixed price contracts prior to the world going nuts. We hadn’t had escalation clauses in domestic contracts since the 70s but they are now coming back. Some people are going to get a hell of a shock. Also time delay clauses having to be reconsidered since so much stuff is delayed or simply not available for all sorts of reasons. One of the interesting results of this is we are now placing a lot more emphasis on finding Australian made products, which is a very good thing, but a mine field. Eg tapware - heap of companies now advertising as “Australian” but most are just importers who might make a handful of specialty products in Aus but the bulk come from you-know-where. it often takes a lot of digging, and there’s lots of obfuscation. Like one company I asked recently to confirm place of manufacture came back with ‘some products are manufactured in SE Asia’. Turns out ‘some’ was 99%. If it doesn’t have the ‘kangaroo’ label, ask for proof of origin (there are exceptions, some really old reliable sources don’t bother paying for the kangaroo label.)
Few 4x4 tow as well as that Rangie I had....with the electric brakes it was so easy , once i went to Mallala two weekends in a row ,towing back to Melbourne through the night. Trailer was around 1,000kilos? The 'Stang 1,350 plus , 8 mounted tires, spare gearbox, diff ,tools, jacks, fuel and generator only way to do with safety was a large heavy 4x4.That met the weight allowance. As for the Macan GTS it suits my needs well, carrying tires to be stripped etc, the dogs, the long trips planned and the trips to the Mt Martha compound . 'Sigh' to took that all the wrong way. The Porker is the apology, the Rangie has a proper job to do...plus you either forgot or didn't know that I've had 4 Rangies plus 2 Disco's.
Like you Klink,I enjoy long distance driving ,the Porker is perfect for that ,we tried a A45 on one trip to Sydney ..Amanda got car sick and I got vertigo and the dogs hated it ..it was a sold a week later So what should I have bought as an everyday DGAF car? And for the GG prawn pick up?
So I ask AGAIN what should I have bought instead ? All I could think of would be a C63 wagon or an Audi RS4 wagon. The Benz would have that shocking AMG ride and the Audi runs the same running gear as the Porker. Perhaps a Golf GTi or a R, but too small for my needs P.S both great cars .
It's perfect for you.... Since you both can't cope with anything sporty. Sig www.pless.com.au/mechanics.htm
I think so, I've seen plenty of news stories and read lots of articles lately about families losing X-amount of money to builders who have gone bust. Definitely not worth the risk at the moment I reckon.
Kids these days. My big girls are 10 years old now and they are changing oil and filters for me when I service cars at home.
Cheers Karen, I have all that information/inclusions in the PDF files they have emailed through. It's their standard basic house plan as you can in that link I posted up, but comes with their "signature opulence inclusions" for this home lol. I can make changes/variations to that house plan of course, but that's when it costs more money. Or if I want to change from the Fujitsu ducted aircon system to something else. I understand all that, I built 2x new homes back in 2009 in Townsville and we went all through that process. So it all came back to me when I started reading this Metricon fellas email and when I went through those PDF documents he sent through. I appreciate your input and you are spot on in regards to a lot of open spaces in that particular build. I like big open spaces, kinda reminds me of what's between my ears.
Would be good if we start going more Australian made. I'm sure 99% of what Bunnings/Reece etc sells is made in you-know-where.
Restored 80 series 1HDT Landcruiser it''ll do everything you want, won't devalue as ANY European s/box does and if kept in the condition you would keep the rest of your cars will more than likely increase in value: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/?q=(And.Service.carsales._.(C.Make.Toyota._.Model.Landcruiser.)_.Year.range(1993..1996)._.FuelType.Diesel._.Seats.range(5..)._.Doors.5.)&sort=Price
