I'm not blaming australia on him...the entire weekend was a mess outside of his control, and the steering wheel being not programmed properly let to more warm up issues on the formation lap (a lot of settings get changed during the formation lap in order to charge the battery properly, brakes, sync the gearbox (though that one may already be done on the way to the grid, but regardless). He then had snap oversteer when he pushed a bit too early. Disappointing for him but I couldn't put the full blame on him, perhaps only for pushing a little too early.

He said himself he was pushing too hard at the beginning of the race.
Charles is putting huge pressure on him..

Yes, but that doesn't mean that he didn't have plenty of problems all out of his hands that led him to be at the back in australia...

That's the point. Knowing when to push. Agreed he had a bad weekend and the lapse from Ferrari in not rectifying his steering wheel only added to his woes on Sunday. But there are races where drivers salvaged maximum from a damaged or a compromised car. Max, Alonso, Seb, Ham all have done that in the past. I am trying to point to a larger picture wherein races like Australia were low-hanging fruits which should have been grabbed with both hands. They would act as a cushion till our rivals sort out their issues. We don't want a neck-neck competition especially at the end of the season draining our resources like what happened with RB and Merc last year. In this cost-cutting era, my PoV is that, win by a good margin and devote the remaining races as a development or test ground for the next season.

I know this is a one-off incident and hopefully he and Ferrari would sort out these issues. It's a pity when we throw points like these and allow Merc to gain an advantage.

Agreed. My only point was lets not write him off or think he constantly throws points away...last year he was very impressive

I hope the thief that stole Lec 300K watch doesn't put him in a bad mind space this weekend.

He's definitely good. There's not a shred of doubt. I just don't want the pressure to get into his head like the way it did when Albon and Gasly partnered with Max which lead to their downfall despite being good racers.
I also hope Ferrari tunes his car according to his driving style. He has been complaining about it since race one. He did mention some setup changes were to be made from race two, but don't know if it has helped him or not.

I’d be shocked if he had to pay for the watch. It was most likely his Richard Mille, I’m pretty sure the drivers as well as Binotto get one as part of the deal with Ferrari

Right, let’s blame Imola on the watch thief and Carlos running over a black cat. Time to move on.

We are in a serious fight now with a serious team.
We need the car to be developed well, where we go from here will make or break our season.
It will be more of a measure of our team than anything else.

The rear wing mentioned above, bring it on and the porpoising has to go.
It must detract from efficiency and it makes out beautiful car look silly.

Red Bull have already brought two aero updates, and in dry conditions were only equal on Ferrari's pace. The rain changed everything, and Red Bull had a better setup for it. We'll get a better idea of how far along Red Bull are at the next race, but here's a few things to keep in mind.

Ferrari ran Leclerc's engine in a conservative setting, which cost him a tenth or so. Sainz had a new engine, but was knocked out.

Word is Ferrari will bring the new ERS and a fresh PU2 to Miami, which will be a sort of 'spicy engine' for Leclerc, as he'll be able to run full out for the next two races. In addition a new rear wing is being introduced to improve drag. I'd expect a new floor in Barcelona.

Eventually, everyone is going to be dealing with the budget cap and have to hold some fire.

Marko's playing the psychological mind games as usual. The only thing that can shut his mouth is Ferrari bringing updates which works and beating Max and Perez in every race.

    2 points to the race:

if Sainz was world class he would not have locked his brakes and beached it in wet gravel. If he had let the car roll to a stop -he would have been able to get out of the gravel and continue racing (see hamilton's off track excursion from the year before)

if ferrari were good at strategy, they would have kept leclerc on track until there was only 2 laps left in the race- pitted him for fresh tires to get fastest lap. Verstappen and perez wouldnt have enough laps left to warm tires and challenge him for fastest lap at that point
