    I blame Dan :p

Nearly 20 years ago I was putting in a new network for the Brisbane airport and a Motorola tech was removing the panel from the PBX equipment when he touched the high amp rail which blew him across the room (luckily not killing him!!) but knocking out all of the power for the ATC :eek::eek:

Funny sight watching ATC staff with hand held radios and binoculars bringing in international flights outside the ATC office :p:p

I seem to remember one of the ATC staff telling me that Brisbane controls a huge chunk of airspace .... true Gary/Steve ?

    Their computer room is massive

    True.
There are only two ATC centres in Oz. Melbourne and Brisbane. Melbourne controls the entire southern half of the continent, and Brisbane controls the northern half.

Depends which way you’re holding the map…

Reminds me of one of my efforts when I was learning to fly.

I announced over the radio to everyone that I was currently “10 miles to the left” of some town…. Lol.

The other day while i was practicing pfls the cfi asked me which way I'd land so I said the wind is coming from the north and pointed to the south, which is where it was coming from. So I was right about where it was coming from..... I don't know what I was thinking. Probably nothing OLIO Complete brain fade. Duh!

One of the things I always get caught up on early morning surf patrols - I’m fine with the wind (direction FROM)but then the water sweeps are described by where they’re going TO so often we have northerly wind and northerly sweep, they’re going in opposite directions!

As a non surf club member, I’m always confused by onshore and offshore. Wtf does that mean?

Yes and even MORE confusing because in this case the wind is blowing ONTO the shore (onshore) or OFF from the shore (offshore) so inverse of normal wind nomenclature!

    FO :p

I’m pretty sure I remember when that happened up in Brisbane. I remember there being talk about reconfiguring our simulator here in Melbourne to become operational at very short notice. They system was designed to be able to do that in the event of a major contingency.. It never happened as they got their system up and running not long after. Very early 2000’s??

You’re right about the large chunk of airspace we control, 11% of the worlds airspace to be precise! Close enough to an even split between Melbourne and Brisbane Centres.
