Interesting... post F1 career? $26 m sounds pretty cheap compared to a USA major sports team in any sport. Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton Join Bid for Chelsea Football Club, Pledging $13 Million Each https://people.com/sports/serena-williams-lewis-hamilton-bid-to-buy-chelsea-football-club-reports/
Well there must be quite a few other buyers. A premier league team costs a lot more than that and likely on par with a small Nba team. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Actually the club was bought in 2003 by Abramovich for $150M, and could be worth $2.5 Billion now. Hamilton and Williams would only be shareholders, not outright owners if the sale was to go through. There is a clause in the sale, saying that the new owners MUST invest $1Billion in Chelsea Club during the next 5 years.
I don’t think Lewis is worth that. I believe the richest athlete is MJ and Hamilton is far from that Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I read on BBC website that Hamilton ans Serena Williams would be part of the Broughton Consortium that intends to bid for Chelsea. It also includes the Rogers family owners of Rogers Communications, chair of the Houston 2026 World Cup bid, the Tsai family from Taiwan, owners of baseball clubs, and other UK club owners too, one being Crystal Palace, etc ...
Our local MLB team was purchased recently and a small ownership percentage was allocated to an LLC comprised of local successful people and celebrities. Helped make the transition from the previous owner (David Glass - Wal Mart CEO) a little smoother as some feared it was going out of town.
Lewis a bandwagoner just like his fans Reigning F1 champion Verstappen, however, has made fun of Hamilton for his apparent willingness to splash out such a figure when he has previously pledged his allegiance to Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal. Dutch driver Verstappen, speaking to the PA news agency, said: “I am a PSV fan and I would never buy Ajax. “And if I was going to buy a football club I would want to be the full owner and to take the decisions myself, not own just a tiny percentage.” Referring to Hamilton’s club loyalty, the Red Bull driver added: “I thought he was an Arsenal fan? And if you are an Arsenal fan going for Chelsea, that is quite interesting. “But everyone does what they want with their money so let’s see what comes out of it.”
Kinda silly statement. Sometimes, In business, opportunities need to be taken where they are. Look at Michael Jordan, he could never buy the Chicago bulls so he bought the wizards as a minority owner first, then minority owner of the bobcats/hornets before owning the team outright… not sure max understands how much money is needed to buy and run a team Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Love it...let's watch vettel and russell race in 11th. Commentators yelling about max closing in. Drs zone coming up. They are about to hit it. Max got it and he is gaining. Keep showing vettle and Russell doing nothing in 11th.
So are you on retainer for HAM to come on here to defend every comment about him? Pretty rich saying I post “a lot” about HAM—obviously you just hang around HAM threads—when it seems to me all you post about is HAM, LOL.
The team is worth 3billion+ he put in 10mill. Doesn't even cover the wages of Lukaku. Nothing more than a publicity stunt/politics to help the consortium win the bid from the government. He even made up some BS claiming he was bullied by his sister to support Arsenal but really he has been a closet Chelsea supporter of course he had the past 30 years to change teams but only this week he decided that he really supports Chelsea, what a ****ing wanker. When Lewis is making $150m/year on his name alone (Air Jordans) for 20+ years after retiring you can compare him to a GOAT for now he is just an overrated driver with a lot of wins under his belt.
If that's the case, Hamilton has been short-changed. Michael Schumacher, with the same number of titles (7), retired with an alleged worth of $600M, and more than 15 years ago !
I think the net worth estimate is pretty accurate from what I know about him, one of my good buddies out here in SoCal used to sponsor the McLaren F1 team back in the day when Lewis was just starting his career, they became good buddies and to this day still keep in touch, here is Lewis calling his daughter to get her out of the hotel to celebrate one of his first wins at McLaren with them. I have hundreds of old party pics of Lewis and them from way back in the day but normally don't post this kind of stuff. Image Unavailable, Please Login
I’d be surprised if it is that much. Until recently wasn’t he only getting $10M/yr racing, and $10M for sponsoring?
Hamilton is rumoured to get $50M per year with his last contract, and before it has been around $35/40M for a few years, if we believe what's reported. Bottas was getting $9M a year when he was at Mercedes. Plus Hamilton could also have various endorsements from different sponsors. But it all depends how he invested that, and some people are more savvy than others.
Schumacher was worth near a billion upon his retirement. Lewis, based on his earnings past few years and endorsements, should be worth 300-500 million (remember, no taxes involved, despite his claims). He'd be crazy to sink a majority of his net worth into owning a football club. IMO he's trying to buy a small share (as he should)
