This scan is taken from an article by Marcel Massini in Issue 70 of Cavallino (published August/September 1992).

It refers to the obstacles that were encountered by the importers of the F40.

Swiss law states that "the height between the rear deck and the spoiler must not exceed eight centimeters" thus making the standard F40 illegal and any F40s that were in Switzerland would have been so on foreign or dealer plates.

This problem was dealt with by one of the official Swiss dealers (Symbol Automobiles SA) who fitted an alloy panel at the beginning of the vertical sides of the rear spoiler that curved upwards from the rear deck forming an "architectonic elevation of the rear deck".

This made the gap legal and thus the F40 fully legal for the Swiss market.

A Swiss company also decided that, in order to overcome this technicality they would cut off most of the vertical attachment and lower the the horizontal piece closer to the rear deck.

Is this still the case in Switzerland?
    Were many cars converted?
Are there any pictures out there?
This would obvioulsy deem them uncertifiable by the Classiche department?

    Any thoughts?

All swiss F40s I've seen so far were normal ones without the alloy pannel.
I've never heard of that or seen pics of it.

But this must have also been a problem for Lamobs. Countach and Diablos have also a big spoiler.

Maybe this law was changed and all cars were rebodied?

I remember that I saw a few SWISS-F40 during the early 90th with this second wing. The rules in Switzerland said in at this time that the free space between the rear wing is to big. So the only solution was this crazy second wing.

Today I know no Switzerland F40 with this. Maybe rules chanced?
