I have a 1972 US DINO GT and i have a crack in the plastic piece that surrounds the spare tire and covers the front firewall the plastic part with the little door in it for accessing the master brake cylinder.. I don't think mine can be repaired... I really broke it..
would prefer an original vs repro..but would accept a reproduction.... any help is appreciated..

I believe it is called the front batch board. Check the vendors listed at the top of the forum page.

Yes, it is extremely unlikely you will find an original one. Seems to me it is made if plastic that tears and cracks just sitting there. Most restored cars have the repro pieces.

Here's an original one. "has a couple of cracks that could be repaired".

Says it's a rear panel but pictures are of a front panel.

If you do buy the repro, look at the pictures closely.
The T. Rutlands does not show the water bottle hangers in their picture but the Superformance does. When I bought my repro many years ago from FAF Motorcars there were no hangers. (I wonder if Superformance has hangers, or are they just showing a picture of an original batchboard and not the repro they are selling?) Luckily, I had a neighbor with a machine shop in his garage and he could make anything. He made me some perfect repro hangers and mounted them in the exact correct position. I didn't want to use the hangers from the original batchboard because I wanted to keep my original batchboard complete. It only had a small crack in the brake fluid door, but that was enough to lose 0.5 points in a FCA Concours.
The repro batchboard also does not have predrilled holes for mounting to the car. My neighbor was somehow able to line up the batchboard with the holes that were already in the car and drill pilot holes in the batchboard. So I was able to use my original screws through the repro batchboard, into the original holes in the car.
Also, remember you have to buy the rubber moulding for the bottom of the batchboard.

    Larry,

This is one of those instances where a repro is the way to go. The one that I purchased (from T Rutlands) is a virtually perfect copy of the original in all the ways that matter. The only place I would say that it differs slightly is that it uses a plastic that has a slightly more matte sheen than the original. This, however, can be quickly addressed by the use of just about any plastic/rubber dressing treatment.

It makes no sense IMO to pay a silly premium for an original that is almost certain to be already damaged/worn in some way when the quality of the repro. is as good as it is.

Mine did not come with the hangers as another poster commented, however I took the originals off my other batchboard and re-used them. This is very simple to do as it involves only a couple of pop rivits. You will need to purchase the rubber trim separately . This is also available from Rutlands and is, again, a perfect copy of the original.

You'll see how much better the wheel compartment looks with a new, unmarked batchboard. Good luck

    Paul

My original piece fit perfectly with no screws needed. How many people's original pieces have screws?

    Some more advice.

When I close the brake fluid door and tighten down the bolt, I back off the bolt a couple of threads. In my imagination, I think this allows the door to flex (instead of crack) when the car is being driven. I have had my current batchboard on my Dino for years with no cracks in the reservoir door (knock on plastic) using this technique.
It's like the rule, "Never lock your windwings"..........."Never tighten down your brake fluid reservoir door all the way."

I have some replicas made out of fibreglass, E series, 1972.
Looks exactly like the original, with the exception that they do not break.

One cannot tell the difference between the plastic and mine. Only issue is shipping from Central America would be prohibitive, but can bring to the USA possibly towards the end of January to the East Coast, and after, to the West.

If anyone needs help on this please pm.

    Regards, Alberto

When Dino (all L,M and E(including US) models) came out from the factory, all of their front batchboard were mounted to the car by screws? If yes, please advise me the detail (size, material, etc) and if possible the picture(s) of the screw!
My 1972 US spec Dino has holes both batchboard and the body, but no screws. I repainted my Dino 25years ago and it came back from the paint shop without screws. The owner of paint shop passed away soon after he finished painting my Dino and I could not ask anyone the batch board was mounted to the car by screws or rivets since then…
