Anyone faced this odd response from an insurer. When getting a few quotes yesterday to renew insurance on my 812 in the U.K., a couple of insurers said they won’t insure it because it has the suspension lifter option. They were unable to explain the reason - call centre team don’t know the underwriting criteria. Curious.

That is truly ridiculous. Try some others like NFU who I use on a few cars.

It might depend how you describe it to them. If you have told them that this is a 'modification' to the standard car's suspension, it might fail as it is described as a modification. Suspension lifter is a factory standard option and so not a modification for nearly every insurer I know. Some insurers just have a standard list of factory options on their system and that might not include every conceivable option for every manufacturer. In which case, computer says no, and they add it as an after-market modification and hence decline. I would try again and if they don't have it as a standard option, then don't add it. Admiral are happy with mine on my F12

    Very interesting.
I told them it was factory fit option.
They ask me if it was hydraulic actuation or pneumatic operation. I said that I don’t know as the Ferrari website does not explain. I also looked at a few official spare parts websites which show there is an electric pump as part of the kit but does not describe the operation. I mentioned that the F12 spec says it is hydraulic and that’s when they said they won’t cover it if it is hydraulic on 812 too. I said I don’t know. Curiously it was Admiral that declined. They quoted £855.11 without that option. Ended up with Aviva specialist insurance at £1,900. Big difference. Could have used the saving toward a third of the cost of Apple CarPlay on the next order.

Aviva also did not care to know what options if they were all factory fit. Only aftermarket concerned them. I have no aftermarket stuff. So they covered it. But shame Admiral would not for seemingly no reason - lifter does not increase risk. Crazy.

My 812 is with NFU and the annual premium is less than £1k. Personally I wouldn't insure my wheelbarrow with Admiral due to all the small print. Aviva Specialist is very good and pay out without any quibble based on my experience.

Just tried NFU for a new GTS, they wanted £4686, Classic Line were less than half the price.

Wow ! I suppose they're more competitive in rural areas and I have a Multi car policy with them giving me the best rates. I also currently have my 2019 RS WP insured with Classic Line who are also extremely competitive with the best track day cover in the UK.

Admiral just changed mine from F12 to 812 for £300 for remaining term (September) and £90K value increase. Suspension lifter and all factory options no problem at all?

    Multi car just for completeness.
