    yea i know, design evolves.
but even the 296gtb....i am trying hard to like it (largely because i think all the other models available are a massive rip off and this one might just be worthwhile), has so many weird facets.
the hips look good, but then the front nose looks asian like the others, and the rear end is ridiculously complicated with all those lines and vents again.
see the frank stephenson youtube episode where he critiques it.

i believe you can be modern and aerodynamic and still make a shape that is distinctive and attractive.....see pagani, koenigsegg, maserati, aston,

Other than the exhaust (should have quad tips), I reckon the 296 looks really nice. Love the buttresses and arched wheels.. so many classic nods. 6cyl hybrid I’m not sold on just yet.

Completely agree unfortunately. Ferrari have lost their way lately. Pininfarina designs were gorgeous; in house not so much. And the newer cars are WAY to computerized & genteel. It’s another manifestation of the global pussification fad. I’ll stick with my phase 2 488 and probably add a 458 to the collection. Let’s see what the new 12 banger looks like hoping for redemption

While music has gone digital songwriting and performing remains invariable. Sure there always be good new bands and music, when it comes to karaoke it's still good old late 60's to 70's for me

same with all the EV's, especially Tesla.
No audio feedback... WAY TOO MUCH power for the (below) average or even average driver...
    expect more accidents.

The first V12 with electric steering was the 812 I believe.
The 550 is a ton of fun while being modern and reliable. I have 78K miles on mine.

not sure about that. I just received my 2022 718 Spyder and it is something, visually stunning, corners like mad, great sound, 414 hp makes it pretty quick. Not nearly as fast as the 458 but much faster than the no-longer-in-the-barn 360, 355 or 430. The 360 was primitive by comparison, acceleration and braking lacking.

the Pista is definitely very fast.
however, comparing it to the 458 is like comparing a picasso to a mona lisa.....
    just my opinion

I have an 812GTS that I bought because it will be the last of the real V12’s ( no turbo etc). It is an amazing car but cold. Way too much of what not one can use on the street. I have a GTC 4 Lusso that is exactly what it was designed as. A beautiful everyday car. It is the Bentley or Rolls that is not boring and run of the mill. The car Enzo would be driving in the modern world. I have a 458 Spider. Probably the best V8 Ferrari ever. The right amount of HP and styling. All that said my 355 Spider manual is my favorite. It is a car that speaks to you. It has the perfect HP and size for “B” roads in Penna. Need I mention the exquisite sound? Yeah it’s old and less expensive than the rest but it’s engaging and by far the most fun to drive on a tight mountain road.
I agree that the cars are getting way too powerful. I am in my mid 60’s and I am no longer buying toys with auto transmissions.
Last car was a Shelby GT350R. Great fun.
My heart breaks with the knowledge that most of the world now frowns on all these Super cars and high end luxury cars.
I guess I’m just an old dinosaur.

I think we’re actually on the same page. To me cars like the cayman, and especially boxster spyder are few of the modern cars I would want to own, largely because they are similar in many ways to the 355/360/430. Lightweight, small, mt, with reasonable power. Boxster spyder has the exotic looks to boot! To me, everything after, including 458, went in the opposite direction of what I like, heavier, unuseable off-track power, dct, more electronics.

yes well that's the thing though, isn't it... The new cars have to be filled with high tech driver aids (which "Dull" the experience) because if Ferrari were putting out 700 horsepower cars without them, half the drivers who owned them would be killed.

Not many people these days are learning the skills required to drive a sports car, let alone a 700 horsepower sports car.

I'm not saying I agree at all - but it does go a long way to explaining why.

Look what happens when driver aids get disabled:

The Pista is quite the machine. It's fast.. like nutso fast. But for me..it's just too damn good. To easy..to almost robot like. There is zero intimidation factor to it. Just turn the key and go fast. No work involved.

And even with them off..they still have influance. The driver in that video should have never been allowed behind the wheel of that car..ever...well he shouldn't have attempted to drive that machine with his level of negative experiance. He simply was not prepared or even remotely understood what that kind of power can do.

Whilst I'd be the last person on the planet to call for limits, you really have to question the logic of building 700 horsepower cars built for 25 year old customers who have no idea how to drive.

Give me a totally manual, light, non driver aided 300-400 horsepower car any day. But I'm an old out of step curmudgeon, what can I say. It blows my mind that these cars are being paid for by youtube revenue.

A bit of a grumpy old man thread but yeah, I don't have any interest in any Ferraris of the past decade or so just because they're all automatics if nothing else. I have no interest in an automatic car no matter how fast it is. I don't mind some newer-ish cars - eg I have a couple recent Porsches because you can still get a manual - including the GT3.

The new 911's still a fairly decent proposition. Can be bought in manual and doesn't cost the earth. Good daily driver for sure.

Dare I say it though, for a daily I'd probably go the dual clutch.

I also notice how much bigger a F8 is or new 911 when they park next to my 360 or 996 turbo. I haven't driven a Ferrari past the 430 and I love my 360. I respect it but I can also stomp on it in 2nd, 3rd gear etc and it will not send me into the trees.....I can hear those 5 valves per cylinder sing thru the Tubi exhaust...and then giggle like a school girl.

My 2001 911 Turbo is similar but the torque is a lot stronger.

Sports cars are supposed to feel small and razor nimble in my opinion. They are so big now but I guess all the hp can make them feel nimble.
