I kinda agree with Lewis as well. I mean rules are rules, but if he's so vain that he desperately wants to keep wearing jewelry underneath his helmet and racing suit, it should be his choice.

Metal significantly attracts heat. Metal also isn't the greatest thing to have in your body when doing an MRI scan (a possibility after a significant accident, for example).

IMO what's the real harm in taking it off? I guess the idea that ''they're after me, man'' is something worth fueling in a season where he's being beaten by his new teammate.

As an FChatter stated earlier, this is the loudest mouth in F1 when it comes to diversity and inclusion to include the socio or political climate of said country where a race might transpire.

So knowing this rule has been in existence since 2005, where's the diplomatic Lewis in dealing with the FIA on this rule??? Why hasn't he sat down with the FIA on this rule if he feels so strongly about it??? Lewis's approach to this 2005 rule is like a big ****-YOU!!!! No one is telling me what kind of jewelry I can wear.

Do you see the discrepancy here???

He's seen the comments on social media, instantly jumping to LH defense (people called it the LH rule....lol). He's taking it to heart, isn't he?

The only one he can harm doing so is himself. And if he does, it's not like he didn't know about it.

The thing is that FIA rule is simply misguided and has no reason to exist. It simply exagerates the risk.
If metal isn't good in your body, plenty of people (possibly drivers) have metal in their body for medical or orthopedic reason.
Increasingly metal plates, screws, pins or rods are used to fix fractures, replace joints or strengthen bones. What to do then?
Barichello received a metal plate to fix a broken eyebrow? So, the blanket ban on metal object doesn't make sense.

Also Hamilton is right to say that some body jewellery cannot be taken off at will: some is actually riveted and needs surgery to be removed.
One of my grand children made that mistake and had to attend hospital to have a piercing removed before returning to school!

By the same token, how do you explain a rule that no official thought worth enforcing since 2005 ?

Then suddenly a new race director comes along and introduces himself by trying to resurrect that obscure rule.

Do you see the lack of consistency there?

Of course Hamilton is the most vehement about it, because it seems that this is particularly aimed at him.

Wonder if they have a helicopter landing site nearby like Monza. Back in 07 I arranged a car theme trip for 28. We arranged for everyone to get picked up at Linate airport and flown in by heli next to the track. Had a 4 course lunch arranged and our own box with huge TV opposite. Race day was 72 and blue. Schumi won and Ruebens 2nd. I couldn't have scripted it any better. And none of us were celebs....lol. Except one driver that flew back in a heli with friends after the race.

This reminds me of the advice you give a new man walking into prison to deck the biggest guy to gain respect. The new Race Director or Directors are looking for a quick cheap way to take a swing at Lewis (the biggest guy on the block) as a quick way to show all the other Driver’s who’s the new sheriff in town. Lewis can see through this crap and that’s why he told them he wouldn’t race this weekend if that’s how they want to play. The Directors blinked. We’ll see what happens two weeks from now, but my guess is it quietly disappears.

I would rather see boats in a fake marina than RVs scattered about. Ever been to Sebring?....lol. As an aside I have taken my RV to Sebring more than once.

It would be cool if the boats were set up as apartments where you could rent one for a pricey amount. Great location to spend the weekend. Have a chef show up to do the cooking and a fully stocked pantry and bar. Electric scooters to get about. You would never have to leave the track for the long weekend.

Heck.....I'd book it once even if it cost a small fortune....lol.

Hamilton gets two-race F1 exemption from FIA over jewellery
Lewis Hamilton has received a two-race exemption from the FIA over the jewellery he cannot easily remove after holding talks with its medical staff on Friday.

As part of the FIA’s clampdown on drivers wearing jewellery in the car, which is forbidden under the International Sporting Code, checks by teams were made part of the scrutineering process ahead of the Miami Grand Prix.

Hamilton turned up to Friday’s FIA press conference wearing three watches, eight rings, bracelets and a necklace, and claimed it was “unnecessary” for officials to be focusing on “such a small thing”.

“It’s almost like a step backwards,” Hamilton said.

“If you think about the steps we’re taking as a sport and the more important issues and causes we need to be focusing on.”

Hamilton’s view was supported by a number of drivers, including Sebastian Vettel, who felt the moves clamping down on jewellery were “targeting” Hamilton.

Hamilton explained that he wore at least two bits of jewellery that could not be removed, including a nose piercing, but they were made of platinum and he had never encountered any previous issues.

Asked if he would step aside and not race in the event of a stand-off with the FIA, Hamilton replied: “If they stop me, then so be it. We’ve got a spare driver.”

Autosport has learned that Hamilton met with officials from the FIA’s medical commission following the press conference to discuss the matter.

During the talks, it is understood that it was explained to Hamilton that the push was nothing to do with stamping out personal expression and purely based on safety grounds.

Hamilton agreed that he would remove whatever jewellery he could for this weekend’s race in Miami, and was given an exemption until Monaco for the items that he could not easily remove.

    Read Also:
As well as clamping down on jewellery, drivers have also been reminded about wearing the correct underwear while in the car, again on safety grounds.

Romain Grosjean’s accident at the 2020 Bahrain Grand Prix has been regularly cited as an example of an accident where either jewellery snagging or the incorrect clothing could cause issues in the event of a fire or while extricating drivers from the cockpit of their cars.

Ahead of opening practice in Miami, technical delegate Jo Bauer issued a scrutineering update confirming that Mercedes had now “submitted a completely filled-in self-scrutineering sheet for the 2022 Miami GP”.

The initial scrutineering document said Mercedes had not confirmed that Hamilton was “complying with the requirement to not wear any jewellery, in the form of body piercing or metal neck chains or watches” while in the car.
