The key and fob to my 550 got lost/stolen. I have the original spare key and remote fob, and codes. They are working fine. I am willing to keep the same key. I want to change the code of the fob. I have searched this forum but the answers related to my questions below are not recent, and some are not relevant now. 1. What is the best way to cut a new key? I have the code that came with the original set. 2. Can the fob be reprogrammed by the user? Or, as I feel, it has to be done by a Ferrari dealer that needs to reprogram the ECU? If so, do I need new fobs? Is any other new hardware required? Thanks.
My recollection is that you are in the UK A good locksmith should be able to cut the key on a standard blank - is it FT46 ? (as previous threads including those you recently checked) Not sure what you are trying to achieve with the fobs but someone like Aldous at AV Engineering might be able to talk you through your options (or msg to Eric355 here) There has been talk of combined fob keys which may be an option for you
Thank you for your helpful info. Yes, I am in the UK. It was my understanding that Ferrari key blanks are no longer available in the usual Ferrari spare websites. I have not found them there. I have ordered this key, cut to my code, http://www.keytrader.co.uk/shop/Vehicle-Keys/Car-Keys/GIOBERT/GT6RP-Key-Blank.html I hope it works. Independently of that, I would like to know the cost of an original Ferrari key, I am waiting for my dealer to tell me but it may be much cheaper somewhere else. Concerning the fob. I just want to make sure that the fob that I have lost no longer works in my car. I will certainly contact Aldous at AV Engineering. Many thanks.
What is the point of changing the code in the fob? Mark at ferrarifobs.com can do that and provide a full set of fobs or match two fobs with your remaining fob, especially if you have the alarm PIN code. So can eric355 in France. Note this is not the key code on the little metal tag. Read this document and make sure you understand fobs and what can be done. You can now get sets with lithium watch batteries and sets with fob and key combined. I have a set of Mark's lithium watch battery fobs, so no changing out those little MN 21/23 alkaline batteries frequently now.
This is very helpful, many thanks. I do have the Alarm ECU pin. It seems that the fobs cannot be reprogrammed, and that I need new fobs and then program the Alarm ECU for the new fobs. I need to know, though, if the lost fob will still work after I program the ECU for new fobs. In other remotes, like garage doors, I can clear the door opener memory of any codes, rendering all previous fobs non-operational. Then it is easy to program the door opener to accept any remote. A lost remote won't work. I have already sent a message to eric355, I may contact Mark if required.
If I understand it correctly, for what I want, to make sure the lost fob no longer works, I need a new red fob and program the Alarm ECU to the new code that the red fob has. What is the part number at https://www.eurospares.co.uk/Ferrari/550/550_Maranello/PartDiagrams/131/Anti_Theft_Electrical_Boards_and_Devices for the European fob kit (red and two blacks) ? Part 171851 seems to indicate in the graph other parts in addition to the fob. It seems I need a new red fob and a new black one. I can reuse the old black one that I have. What would be the part number for the European red fob? 165584? If so, is it not available?
The last batch of three fobs I believe came through as three blacks - it is not impossible they are already all sold out - I do not believe they were ever supplied singly - Eric or Aldous will be better able to give current position As you are intent on making the lost fob not work do you also intend to change all locks due to the lost key ?
Not to worry. Once you get a new set, your old, lost fob will no longer work. When you get a new set of fobs the new PIN is programmed into the alarm ECU and the fob IDs of all three fobs are also programmed into the alarm ECU. No other fob IDs will work, three maximum IDs. The PIN is only used on that initial programming (using your old alarm PIN to put the system in learn mode) or if you start her using the PIN only with no fob. For normal operations like starting and unlocking the doors with a fob, only the three fob IDs are used.
[QUOTE="greyboxer, post: 148524259, member: 15154 As you are intent on making the lost fob not work do you also intend to change all locks due to the lost key ?[/QUOTE] I will find out the cost of changing all locks (I count four of them). Do you know an estimate and where to go? Thanks.
