Well looks like Lewis finally ran out of luck so far this season.
I like stats and even though they can be mitigated by circumstances he is 1-4 versus George.
I expect a few good races from Lewis this season but at this stage I would not be surprised if he calls it quits end of the season.
He had his run but f1 isn’t a forgiving sport. Aside mentally, I don’t think he has excuses, he is for enough. He is just either getting beat or lacking luck

I think he won't stick his neck out on an inferior car, and that's the message he is sending to Mercedes.

To be fair to him losing the position after changing tyres was a gamble, Pérez couldn't overtake Sainz.

I think he did ok this race.

What I'm saying is that if he did pit and change tyres it wasn't going to be easy to overtake Russell on the same tyres with the same age.

Cars not all that inferior, top 5’s from Russel since the start of the year is not a crap ass car. It’s just not the major advantage they had in the past over every other team. Seems the budget caps or new rules squashed their dominance and are third best manufacturer now

    Lame.
The team is in position to see all the gaps and judge the track position loss that comes with pitting.
The situation with George in contrast was completely straightforward - his strategy from 1/3 distance was "stay out and pray for safety car"

If by punked you mean hitting the safety car lottery, yea I guess so :D

He deferred to his team and then complained afterwards. If you cant make a decision on your own then why blame others? Certainly someone with his experience could have made a proper call. Pretty weak position.

Russell was smart enough to know that it was highly likely that there would be a yellow and he was right. I assure you that if he was wrong he wouldn't have been blaming his team for not calling him in sooner.

    See the difference?

That being said I’d take finishing 6th if it means meeting the greatest athlete of all time, the greatest quarterback of all time and the spice boy .

Well, if Hammy has the respect of these guys, who cares what the rest of the world thinks, right?

I'd take 7th NOT to meet supposed 'greatest'. What's a 'spice boy'?
I like great racing; 'special people' subtract from my enjoyment.

Given the bumpy surface, walls everywhere (with almost no runoff anywhere), and poor driver visibility ... the safety car prediction was practically a sure-thing, hardly a guess or a gamble. Russell didn't get lucky ... he (or whoever on the team made the call) played it smart.

He still had to do his stop, and since he was the litmus test for the hards, the decision was very easy. In his situation everyone would have done the same. See Albon last race.

Agreed ... any driver on hards for that long, needing to change, would have waited (as long as possible) for the safety car.
The point is ... it ain't luck. The safety car was all but guaranteed to show.

    Yes.

And interestingly there is another Spice connection to racecars - ex-BTCC racer and current BTCC commentator Paul O'Neill is the brother of "Sporty Spice" Mel C

Full radio. He was informed. Lewis was going to lose track position to George but could have mediums or softs. Lewis had no confidence in his capabilities of overtaking george (his words, not mine).

Fact of the matter is that they wouldn't give Lewis the option to pit if it wasn't a viable strategy.

When he still had the fastest car Lewis tried dictating the strategy many times, then sulk when it didn't work out and publicly say ''they had all the info, their fault''. Now he's on the radio telling them to figure it out, and still moans about the result.
