Darius- Affirmative on the Porsches. My old 69 911S that I sold ($5K) to buy my old Dino 246 GT ($10,600) in 1975 is worth a fortune now ($100-200K) and they built 1492 of that model in that year. The Dino appreciation, I get, my old 911S, not so much.

In the UK, percentage of FHP 3 pedals was likely pretty high. In the US, not so much because dealers discouraged buyers because of the squealing FHP brakes until fully bedded.

I just took my 993 c4s out of storage today, started right up, no smoke, and ran beautifully. I love it, but don’t know if I’d pay 200k+ for it now. I imagine the turbo is a big power step up, but handling, braking and feel should be similar.

The gated 575 has something so special about it, that I never question its value. It’s not perfect, but feels so right for me!

Now about that color scheme on the 993 turbo s. Never saw red dash with grey seats before, but it seemed so odd that I did a double take.

I have 993 C4 and 550-amazing that these cars overlapped in period as the 550 feels a completely different generation to a 993!
    Love them both though.

I think Porsche sold, and sells, 911s at the right price. They're all excellent cars in their era (most of them anyway). But then craziness. Why is a 993 RS worth 10x a 996 GT2 RS. But then I guess you could say the same thing about lots of cars. To partly answer my own question, I think 911s have a) a reputation for reliability which Ferraris don't and which scares off this mid market b) same re practicality c) a kind of cult male geek following (of which I am kind of a member) and d) don't look too flashy so fit in more easily in normal lives.
But still, a 993 TT S being 3 x the price of a 550 is like a 992 TTS being three times the price of a 812 SF. Not value for money!

Harook, I have a '95 993 C2 coupe and a '00 550. I thoroughly enjoy them both, and consider each of them the pinnacle in their era of pure sports car and GT performance respectively. Forced to choose between the two, I'd take the 550 all day, every day, of course. I mean, c'mon, it's a V12 FERRARI!!!

My family and I have been stuck in Asia for more than 2 years due to the pandemic - we are now heading to the UK and I am pulling my 550 out of storage and will finally get to drive it again - cant wait - it was a Hong Kong RHD car - I have owned it since 2006 and wont ever sell it

Were there any emissions and safety related compromises on the US 550s vs the Euro ones that would make the Euro cars better? I know with 3X8s there was extra bracing in the doors, Testarossas had the stupid US belts, and 80s cars had to be detuned/have cats for the US market. Don’t know if that still applied in the Maranello era.

Darius- Motronic ECUs are different and late US models have a fuel cooling system.

I don't understand why the WSR is seen as special. It's a 550 with all the options and a little metal plaque. A cosmetic special edition. This LHD one is priced at more than double what a normal LHD 550 would be priced at with the same mileage.

I agree. But then a 'chairs and flairs' Dino attracts a hefty premium over a car without them or the same for a 599 60 F1 which is a standard 599 with a tacky paint job. Plenty of talk here too about the pricing of manual 575s. That said, a seller can ask what they want. Doesn't mean they'll get it.

Chairs and flares were separate options on the Dino 246 GT. The 550 WSR is the Ferrari equivalent of a Corvette Pace Car without the decals. They still bring a premium, though, just like they actually set a WSR.

Agreed about the premium of the 60. I never understood that.

I don’t know enough about Dinos to comment on the chairs and flares..but they were material things which are deemed desirable, whereas the WSR was more like a GTS 911 with options picked and thrown in?

Manual 575s (I own one) are mechanically different to F1 575s. Whether they are better or not is a different question! WSRs are just standard 550s with all the toppings. No difference in the drive to picking the toppings yourself.

And I agree I wonder what they actually sell for. I suspect the premium is pretty big.

I took delivery of a 550 today, what a car. Much smaller than I had expected, I've never driven one nor do I think I have even seen one up close. Pictures make them seem larger than they are. Parked next to the 599, it's a little thing and such a wonderful driving experience, small cockpit, fast, a gem of a car.

A seller asking whatever and not getting it seems to be really true for 599 60 F1. I have literally only ever seen one person buy this car second hand at the elevated price and that was mostly to move up the VIP ladder. Literally every 599 60 F1 sits unsold for ever at its elevated price and then gets moved to another dealer. I also think the reason why these cars are pushed at elevated pricing levels is because most of them have barely been driven and are in showroom mileage/conditions.
