Post # 382, the Admiral Makarov. Many reports purporting show destruction, sinking while under tow, etc. New reports suggesting 'fake news'... "move along folks, nothing to see here'.....
must be "the fog of war".......(propaganda, from both sides)

I think alot of the confusion comes from the similarity of the names between the Moskva and the Makarov. The former, a 40 year old, 9000 ton cruiser was hit by two neptune missiles and sunk under tow. There were rumors the latter was last week, but it turned out to have just been a 60 ton Serna-class landing craft. The Makarov has been spotted near Sevastopol, staying far away from Ukrainian controlled lands.

They need some of Kongsberg's Naval Strike Missiles fitted to their Su-27s. Maybe the Norwegians (or the US, RGM-184A) can provide some. Will make the Black Sea a very uncomfortable place for Russian ships and boats.

Same operating area. Similar hull numbers ? More of an honest mistake than the kind of propaganda we see coming out of the other side.

Commonly known as a "tankette". Probably proof against rifle fire but nothing bigger than that.

I believe that most of those sorties never leave Russian airspace, and likely involve launching missiles into Ukraine. Russian aircraft that enter Ukraine face a big risk of being shot down. A number of Russian missiles are being shot down as well, but some do make it through.

Here’s why Russian tanks keep getting decapitated in Ukraine

    It's called the “jack-in-the-box effect.”

    https://taskandpurpose.com/analysis/russian-tanks-ukraine-turrets-blown-off/

".... have autoloading mechanisms that store tank rounds in a carousel at the base of the turret, ...."

    Anti-tank weapons

Javelins can be fired so that the missile explodes on the top of a tank, where the armour is weakest, according to manufacturer Lockheed Martin.

A lot of Russian tanks are fitted with reactive armour which absorbs the impact of missiles.

However, Javelins are fitted with two warheads. One blows away the reactive armour, and the second pierces the chassis underneath.

You could probably blown one up with enough molotov cocktails. Just get them up to temp and BANG ! Just like torpedoes.

The Russians were experimenting with hydrogen peroxide propellant torpedoes. Anyone who has worked with high concentration H2O2 knows it has to be treated very carefully and reacts with a large number of alloys, lubricants, and other materials.

Good Lord! Working with 30% hydrogen peroxide was crazy enough. Going above that concentration has to be a real adventure...T

We (AFRL) were working on a small rocket engine with Aerojet (~10klbst) for the X-37 using 98% peroxide and JP8, a green (no toxics) propellant combo. Unfortunately, it was still melting the injector when we ran out of money. So they used hydrazine and everybody has to use bunny suits after X-37B lands.

Airborne Laser was going to use BHP (70%) for its COIL laser.

TRW had a major peroxide facility melt-down during the time we were working on peroxide engines.

Tom- It was AFRL at Kirtland AFB where the space directorate was located. We started the X-37 program with Boeing and the X-40A. NASA picked it up as the scaled-up X-37A and that evolved to USAF's X-37B.

Seems like everyone knows about those tanks now except the crews. They must be getting completely vaporized when the tanks explode.

Good field commanders would have adapted to the situation after the disastrous "Battle of Kiev". It appears they haven't learned anything, or just don't really care.
