The exhaust on my 79 308gts has long **** the bed. Instead of replacing it with something much quieter than the basically open exhaust it has now, has anyone tried to fabricate an x-pipe to a carb'd 308 or any 308? If so what were the positives and negatives?

    Thanks!
    Jim

Isn't the stock 308 muffler (or any aftermarket 308 muffler) an X-pipe? ;) Seriously, you'd almost have to significantly lengthen the whole system to have a place to put in an X-pipe. Have you tried sketching up what such a layout might look like?

X pipe wouldn't do anything as it's a flat plane crank vs cross plane.

I had a system fabricated using a 14” 2 in 2 out Magnaflow cross flow muffler. Hedman pipe tips finished it off for a stock Ansa look and it sounded fabulous

Happen to have any audio clips? Did you notice any mild performance increase?

I have no idea re any performance increase but it sounds the part. This was on my 3.4L engine I built which made 274bhp at the wheels (dynojet), so it already moved pretty well.
