He was basically asking them was it worth the risk, and they said no. He wasn't even talking about the team there, he was talking about strategy in general. Safety cars have been the bane of his existence.

That's quite funny, because when they give him the option to pit they tell him exactly where he'll be. After all his years racing for the team he apparently still doesn't comprehend that his team has his best interest at heart, and want the best possible result. They wouldn't give him the opportunity to pit if it wasn't a realistic scenario, that it would drop him too far back etc. What's gone on here is just the book of racing drivers' excuses applied in full. Lewis has a massive habit of trying to dictate the strategy. When it goes wrong, he blames them. The strategists give him the option and he still blames them.

About this jewelry issue: it is announced that this "no jewelry rule" will be strictly monitored from now on, hence all the fuss and the silly 2 race exception for Lewis because he really believes that rules do not apply for him. But - the rule itself was already in place for a number of years. Strictly adhering to these rules means that each start of Lewis in these years was illegal and that in fact he should be stripped of all wins and championships in the years he was wearing the illegal jewelry during races.

Good point. And along those same lines, I would find it quite difficult to enforce the budget cap as well. But that's a work in progress.

I’m going to have to agree. His all interview makes him pass for not genuine when after all those wins he tells them thank u so much guys. I do agree the team is responsible for the strategy but I don’t appreciate his shade at them and throwing them under the bus post race. I’m sure it’s also hard for him to know exactly where everyone is at that time but he has enough experience to have a better behavior post race. He'd be much more likeable if he won and lost with grace. The throwing under the bus of his team is getting old and is entirely predictable...even at his age he does it too often. IMO he thinks too much of how he is portrayed by others. That's fine in your early 20s, many men haven't fully mentally developed at that age, but at his age...come on. Things go wrong, **** happens. Be a man in public. And no it's not unreasonable at all to handle the issue behind doors, as it very well should be....and it's far more effective, too.
Uh, this is the 'Hamilton deserves more respect' thread, not a race or even a racing thread. Nobody forces you to click on it. Hell, if I had a crane I'd happily lift you out of this thread so you could get back on track and rejoin the racing threads.
Fully agree, you expect a leader to take control and guide the team with regard to the matters he has control over. He's doing almost the exact opposite. Complaining about the car and trivial things like the jewelry rules. Rules that even been part of the sport for decades. In the years all things were going for him he was only too happy to receive the applause, comparisons with Senna etc. He never made the reservation that he was in a lucky position, with easily the best car on the grid. Part of the problem is the British press as well, which aren't critical at all.
He showed more grace after Abu Dhabi then literally any other driver on the grid. I give him a pass for that alone.

Now in an ordinary car, he's just an average driver at most, blaming everyone but himself. The merc has massive potential development, but it's not a slow car. GR is proving that. He's hustling the car very close to the podiums. Drama queen is just throwing his toys out of the pram. I hope GR crushes him week in and week out. All this comparison of Senna and MS is just pure nonsense. It's always the car. Always been. There's nothing special about Lewis. 2022 is proving this.
He should have not been that close in AD to begin with. Should have been DQ at Silverstone, and given at least a 1 race ban for that professional foul
I think the penalty received, all things considered, was mild, but it is what it is. I don't think DQ and race ban was in order, either, mind you. That said, people defending Lewis' Silverstone actions were begging for Max to be banned in Jeddah and even Brazil. The FIA set the precedent giving mild penalties to far more serious actions. Reality is that people on one side of the fence will always argue for harsher penalties and vice versa. Mercedes and it's fans (particularly the twitter lot) should look back on last season and see that they really did have quite a lot of leeway/help from the FIA to even get them in the position to fight for the title in the last round (mid season wing directives, unquestioned mega engines, suspicious suspension and so on), and they're (still) focusing on frivolous details to try and hand the title to Lewis. Alonso at the time summed it up quite nicely: "Justice".
