The magical month of may, the greatest month is racing, is here. The "500" is May 29th. But qualys are next weekend and it features a slightly revised process: https://www.indianapolismotorspeedway.com/events/indy500/news-multimedia/news/2022/04/26/Indy500-2022-Quals-Format
Practice gets underway today at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in preparation for this weekend's qualifying. Here's a link to the entry list and the week's schedule: https://www.motorsport.com/indycar/news/full-indy-500-schedule-and-entry-list/10305627/
Right. 2006. He couldn't quite catch Sam Hornish, Jr in the Penske. Sheesh . . . . I just realized what a long time ago that was . . . .
Mostly long, partial race simulations today. So the times don't mean that much. Anyway, Sato was top with Malukas 3rd. Good to see the Dale Coyne boys doing well. Jimmie Johnson and impressive 5th. Tomorrow they turn up the wick to qualy day turbo boost levels. Things could look a lot different on "Fast Friday".
OK. The turbo boost gets turned up today. Should be fun. Apparently they will be dealing with gusty winds though.
So we will have Spanish Grand Prix qualifying followed almost immediately by Indianapolis 500 Mile Race qualifying. What a hairy day at Indy. The wind was the worst ever experienced according to many of the veteran drivers and team personnel. Sato has been quick all week and even today with the crazy conditions. So he's my pick for pole.
Actually in the past few years they maybe had 34-35. The year that Alonso got bumped I think they only had 34.
there were 36 that year (2019), Pato and Max Chilton also DNQ'd. I think that was the biggest field in a while. btw, looks like small chance of rain this morning and big chance this afternoon, I have a feeling qualifying will be tomorrow.
