Best race of the season when it comes to drama but f*** me; someone at Ferrari needs to be sleeping with the fishes tonight. Absolute disaster of a race. Leclerc robbed of certain victory. Sainz just buffooned his way around the track and struggled to even beat Ham… Shambles.

RB did well to maximise this opportunity. Sad for Perez. But the reality is, he’s not as fast as max and he’s number 2 driver. Team orders were never in doubt.

Russel once again shows he’s the future at Merc. Great drive and really good hard racing. Nice to see that both Leclerc and Russel are happy to go head to head vs Max and won’t be bullied out of the way.

Merc have clearly made a big step. Ham was very close to fastest lap, and both of them managed to get a good result out of the package despite Mag’s attempt to barge Ham off the track. And finally, it looks like Ham has woken up - although it’s a bit sad to see an F1 driver ask permission for an early bath just because of an early incident…

Overall, loads of action up and down the field with lots of overtakes. Enjoyed it - and certainly better than next weeks Monaco snore fest will be.

Sounded like turbo to me. Tried to find what Zhou's failure was, like Leclerc he was able to drive on. Bottas also lost an engine on Friday, but that should be an old one. Regardless, all Ferrari engines, and if they're all turbo related failures...well.

Sainz recovered pretty well I thought..bad day for Ferrari for sure..but let's give the guy a bit if credit for finishing fourth.

Hamilton..king of the cry babies..but look what he manged to do. Strong finish.

Happy for Russell. He drove an amazing race..the battle with Verstapin was awsome..

Bad day for Charles..obviously he was on route for a one hand on the wheel victory. Bad luck..

I feel for Perez..it was his race they should have given him that one.

Mick..unfortunately is not showing too much promise. Driver talent is obviously not hereditary..

Very true, but a few races earlier, they were completely out of the picture.
If anything, Mercedes is very good at making a recovery through a season.

The difference between 1st and 2nd is 7 points.

No team shooting for the championship can afford to be that generous with its (de facto) #2 driver.

Is that the actual sound of a Ferrari hybrid shutting down, or did Sky add the slide whistle sound effects? :p

(Similar, to a lesser extent, when Zhao's engine quit.)

Methinks Ferrari is losing the development race.
    Merc with all new car.
    Russel worth watching.

Max's pace advantage on the new mediums was enormous, even with the bipolar DRS he likely would've passed Perez before long, his exit from the last chicane would simply be too good. Why risk a crash, or indeed, lose time to Russell. Say they fought for 3 laps. Russell cruises closer and closer. Perez couldn't have pitted then and coming ahead in full comfort.

Once Perez sees the replay he can see what the rest of the race showed.

And yes I feel for the guy, did everything perfect today, but he's simply not the championship contender and in a season that's way too close still, it doesn't make any sense to not maximize the points for the WDC when they can.

Maybe we should all root for RB/Max, I'm liking our chances at reverse psychology more than anything I've seen otherwise thus far from Ferrari...

Exactly! I like Perez a lot, but the fact is (admit or not), he is #2 driver on the team. there is a reason why his contract is on a year to year basis vs Max's 5 year contract. I also believe that if Max was not ordered to come in to pit, he would have yielded to Perez for the benefit of the team.

They laughed at Bottas when he was bowing to Hamilton, calling him "The Butler" !

In fact any team worth its salt needs a "butler".

You could hear something spooling down from high speed, so maybe the drive between the turbine and compressor if they use a split design.

If a shaft dynamics problem, that’s not an easy fix as Honda learned a few years ago. Ferrari turbo is by Garrett, though not sure what components.
