Found during the daily search, no knowledge of car or owner. Good price for a 3.2 car.... https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1396134047496796/
Hmmm. Interesting. There are actually two Facebook ads for it - each by a different person. One is North of McKinney and the other is Southeast of Fort Worth. The McKinney area ad was posted a day ago and the other was posted 16 hours ago. I wonder if this is a scam ad, the same poster using different accounts, or maybe a fast flip? I sent them a note. I'll let the group know what they respond back with. 2cam
Registered in McKinney. Profile shows American iron, so this may be his "odd duck". Looks like the Ft Worth lister wants to be a broker, and has one additional pic, with a bunch of Marketplace ads for cars/SUVs, an electric bike, an El Camino(!), some listed as "Sold", some shown as located in McKinney. Maybe a buddy of McKinney seller?
Forgot to mention - Neither "seller" is the registered owner, including Van Alstyne/McKinney seller (the "American iron profile" mentioned above).
OK, so I talked to the seller. It's the older ad that was listed near McKinney: (https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1396134047496796/?ref=search&referral_code=marketplace_search&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp:0df25bd4-2076-4349-b88e-624616aacf1a ). He bought the car two weeks ago from the family of an owner that had passed away. Apparently, he'd had it for around 20 years and it hasn't been registered since 2020. The current seller said that it was buried under boxes in their garage and he trailered it home. There aren't any records for the car and the family wasn't aware of any. It's missing the spare but does have the manuals and tool kit. However, the tools in the toolkit are VERY rusty and badly corroded for some reason. Water in the trunk, a past flood event, or just improperly stored outside of the car? I did run a Carfax on it and it doesn't show up in Carfax records until 1990. From that point forward, it's been in Texas with evidence of being in Houston, San Antonio, the Dallas area, and a registration entry in Midland for some reason (emissions?). There aren't any accidents or other issues shown on the Carfax. The current seller seems very honest and doesn't seem to be trying to hide anything. He does have the title to the car which he texted a picture of with the VIN on it. However, this is going to be a bit of a project. He stated that the clutch seemed to be at the end of its life, the AC isn't working, the sunroof (not surprisingly) isn't working, it has a couple of oil leaks (sounds like the shift shaft seal and cam seals from the location of them on the floor), slow windows, etc. He shared pics and it does have a few cosmetic issues like light scrapes on the bumpers, a cracked air dam, bent rear exhaust louvers, a heavily worn driver's seat, and stained/scratched paint from (presumably) the boxes being stored on it. All of that combined with the lack of maintenance records (timing belts at a minimum) could make this one somewhat expensive to put right if you were paying someone to do the work. However, if you're able to handle the work yourself, this may not be a bad deal. A 3.2 Mondial Coupe is a wonderful thing. Fun to drive, easy to get (most) parts for, and easy to service. There were only about 30 of them imported to the US in 1986. The number of them in Grigio with Crema interior has to be in the low, single digits. It's a fantastic color combo - very subtle and perfect for the Mondial. It was going to be too much of a struggle to get up there to see it for at least the next week. If it had been closer to Austin or my schedule would have been a bit more open, I would have made an offer on it. 2cam
I considered this for about a nanosecond, but timing is wrong for me. Probably a good thing, based upon what the added info. Love the Grigio, but the interior......... not my favorite, but always liked the looks and the sleeper nature of the Mondials. TY for filling a bunch of the ???? on this one. "Family Friend sellers" was a brief thought, but not the Estate angle.
It would be the perfect his/her combo with my current ride. I'm kinda hoping that the "buyer" flakes out today. I absolutely don't need another ride, but the wife really like this.
I hope you're able to get it! I'm happy to email you a copy of the Carfax if you'd like to see it. 2cam
It'll be back. Most likely a dealer picked it up... Sure! The VIN for the car is ZFFXD21A2G0062145 . Cheers, 2cam
It's still listed but most likely a fake ad. Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
That's the 2nd ad that was up last week at the same time as the real one. Not sure why it's still there. I'm going to send them a note to see what kind of response I get. 2cam
OK, a quick update... I messaged the person (Sam) that currently has an ad up for the car and asked if he still has it. He immediately responded with a quick "Yes, I do". However, he hasn't responded to any of the other messages that I sent him asking for more detail and specific pictures. So... I'm inclined to think that the ad is a scam. I'll let you know if they respond back with anything meaningful. Cheers, 2cam
It looks like the car has made a reappearance. Now in Houston and $10K more expensive: https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/4929546527155434/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Abb0b8e11-28ce-41fb-9ff6-645eb93bc912 It definitely sounds as if it will need some attention... 2cam
But the stash of parts, was that always with the car?? Sunroof will be a total PITA to sort....but doable....
