    Hey all,

Denso 101211-7580 is the 3rd generation of alternators used due to upgraded output.

It’s $1,000 on Ricambi. Mine is rebuilt just 2 years ago but acts up once in a while (battery light comes on at high revs) so I want to replace it. I want a high quality aftermarket option. Anyone have comparable part numbers from recent times? Previous threads are all expired links or can’t find that part number anymore.

    Thanks

Jake what type of alternator do you have? Is it the "AC Delco type"? Mine is a 92 model and had that type and my alternator light kept coming on inexplicably. I replaced it with a cheap aftermarket alternator , same part number however, off eBay for $70 it has been working perfectly for 5 years! I'll dig up the part number when I get home. I was told by a shop that rebuilds these it is a sign that the internal voltage regulator is going bad. Unfortunately it's not like today's alternators where it pops in with a few screws and you get new carbon brushes it has to be split open and soldered in.

You can get 185 amp delocs out there too that fit. They all take different brackets I believe.

Why not send it out and have the current Denso unit rebuilt?

Do you know the part number of your new one? I definitely need a new alternator now. The light comes on almost nonstop. Bummer! $1100-2400 for an alternator from Ricambi is nuts.

The Denso/Delco part number is on your existing alternator. You can use that to xref or search by that many sellers will list alternators compatible with the original Denso/Delco part number, not Ferrari part number.

OK I found all my info last night. My 92 348 had the original AC Delco Remy CS130 alternator. Alhough it was charging fine the light intermittently continued to come on the dash. I replaced it with an aftermarket new exact clone the part number is 7973N. Tons on ebay for $100. It is only a 105amp but do not be spooked, it works perfect. I live in Florida I run my air continuously with my lights on and there is never any dimming whatsoever. You will have to either borrow a friend's electric impact wrench or buy one from Harbor Freight like I did to change the pulley. It comes right off easily. Once the nut is off, the pulley comes off effortlessly.... no banging required. Also recommend replacing your belt mine had a chirp at start up which was caused by the original old stiff brittle belt. Part number was 138325 which is now 199822. Ricambi for that. Absolutely disconnect your battery when changing this alternator..... It is the easiest thing you will ever do to your car.

Also the factory alternator actually has a 4 wire plug but these year Ferrari's only used one of the 4 wires that's just how it was so don't be alarmed when you see the you see the plug only using 1 wire.

To clarify the original AC Delco AND the 7973N has a 4 pin plug... Ferrari only uses one of the 4.

Thanks everyone! I’m going to read the part number on the current alternator. I’ve been informed that it is upgraded with a different bracket. Due to that modification, I want to ensure what size I need for direct bolt in. I will keep everyone apprised.

Just curious is the alternator not charging or do you just have a dash light coming on? Put a Volt meter on your battery with the car running and see if it's reading above 12.8.

Do you have more specifics on the 7973N alternator? It seems quite a bit different.

I think I’ll have to remove the pulley on 7973n and put my original pulley on.

Did you wire on a different plug?

Also, the 7973n seems to have a different mounting design; it has two separate brackets that come off the alternator versus the one I have is a solid bracket.

The Nippon Denso Large Body seems right, https://www.superformance.co.uk/348/electrical.html

What was the part number. There is a 105amp and 140 amp Denso. The 140 has very different mounts. Never confirmed it but I suspect its the same one the 355 uses.

This was the "evolution" of 348's alternators:

    139421.....105A DELCO..................(Superseded by 170192).................Lower Bracket 139295
    148471.....105A NIPPONDENSO.......101211-5070...................................Lower Bracket 145357
    155785.....105A NIPPONDENSO.......(Kit: 70000809)............................Lower Bracket 145357
    156235.....140A NIPPONDENSO.......101211-7580..(Kit: 70000807).....Lower Bracket 145357

The lower brackets are same for all Nippondenso alternators. The 140 Amp Denso uses a similarly shaped but somewhat shorter upper bracket than the one on 105 Amp Densos. The parts catalogue does not show a part number for the shorter upper bracket which, it seems, came only as part of the Kit: 70000807.

I bought the 140 Amp kit some years ago (I only have a very small picture of it). In addition to the alternator, the kit included upper and lower brackets, some bolts, nuts and bushes, and the complete alternator harness.

Here is the mount I have. It’s 60mm from the mount to block and to the outer bolt hole. I believe I need the 105a. I’m looking into the 7973N Dodge Monaco option but that alternator has two mounting arms from it versus my current alternator has a solid mounting arm so I don’t think the 7973N will fit onto my current mounting bracket.

The “105a large body” is what I seem to have now, https://www.superformance.co.uk/348/electrical.html
But it’s too much money when I potentially can use 7973N for $65

Sorry I have been away for a while. Yes I had to put the OEM pulley on the new after market alternator. Borrowed my neighbor's electric impact driver and it made easy work of that. Did not have to replace the plug I used the plug that was the OM original on the car which again only using one wire.

Honestly if you're having this much trouble locating a correct alternator I would opt to have yours rebuilt it is an easy easy job for any competent alternator rebuild shop.

9 out of 10 times it is only the carbon brushes that need to be replaced but shops will go ahead and replace the voltage regulator on principle.

    Hey All,

I disassembled the alternator and cleaned it all. Then I replaced the plugs. I ran a new ground directly from gearbox (where main battery ground mounts) to the alternator.

    No more problems!
