It's already clarified. They just haven't had to use it yet. That said, I don't think Ferrari would take away Sainz' first ever win to help Leclerc along. But podiums? Yes. 2nd win, absolutely.
Id say Ricci is under review completely!! https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/brown-admits-to-mechanisms-in-ricciardos-f1-contract/10312076/ Brown admits to "mechanisms" in Ricciardo's F1 contract McLaren CEO Zak Brown has admitted that there are "mechanisms" within Daniel Ricciardo’s Formula 1 contract that could end it early. Image Unavailable, Please Login By:Jonathan Noble Co-author:David Malsher-Lopez May 28, 2022, 9:48 AM Image Unavailable, Please Login Ricciardo’s long-term future at the Woking-based team has been thrown into question after Brown last week made comments that the Australian driver’s results had not lived up to expectations. Ricciardo accepted that his time at the team had not delivered the results he nor his bosses would have liked, but he was clear in Monaco that he was committed for the full three years of his contract which runs out at the end of 2023. Speaking ahead of a visit to the Indianapolis 500, though, Brown suggested that McLaren’s deal with Ricciardo was not completely watertight. For while Ricciardo was halfway through a three-year contract, he suggested there were break clauses that could open the door for a parting of ways if things did not improve. Asked if there was a get-out clause for the driver or team if they did not want to continue in to 2023, Brown said: “I don’t want to get into the contract, but there are mechanisms in which we’re committed to each other, and mechanisms in which we’re not. “I spoke with Daniel about it. We’re not getting the results that we both hoped for, but we’re both going to continue to push. “I think he showed in Monza [last year] he can win races. We also need to develop our race car; it’s not capable of winning races. But we’d like to see him further up the grid. “And we’ll see how things develop and what he wants to do. And then we’ve got our testing programme ramping up, but we’re in no rush.” Image Unavailable, Please Login Daniel Ricciardo, McLaren, on the grid Photo by: Steven Tee / Motorsport Images Ricciardo’s future beyond 2023 had already appeared to be dependent on the progress of McLaren’s IndyCar youngsters, with Pato O’Ward having been singled out as a leading contender if the team felt confident enough in going for a rookie. Yesterday, Arrow McLaren SP announced O’Ward had renewed his contract with the team for at least three more years. A swoop for the Mexican to replace Ricciardo for 2023 could be viewed as too early, although the Mexican is set for more F1 running later this season. “We’ve got both our test drivers under contract,” said Brown. “Pato’s definitely going to be one of those. He did a very good job in Abu Dhabi [young driver test] last year. “The IndyCar schedule is very packed, as you know, but the end of the year you won’t be surprised to see him in one of those cars.” Read Also: Ricciardo "pushed set-up too far" ahead of Monaco FP2 crash Red Bull ‘surprised’ by gap to Ferrari, says Perez Tsunoda on verge of grid penalty after Monaco F1 reprimand O’Ward reckoned he had another two or three years to break into F1 before he felt he would be too old to make the switch. “I think the deadline is there because of age,” he said. “Once you’re 25 or 26, that window closes quite a bit. So obviously if that opportunity comes about, you take it, right? “My dream of becoming a racing driver came about in Formula 1 That’s something that’s never going to leave. It’s a part of me. It’s what opened my heart to such a different world.”
Bas, Competition with Red Bull is so close it would be a big mistake to let Sainz winning if Charles is second..
It would be, but also exceptionally cruel. I don't think RBR would've swapped Max and Perez if Perez had never won before. Ferrari did it before with Salo. If they want to destroy Carlos this would be a quick way to do it... I wouldn't blame Ferrari for doing it, I'd fully understand why...
This is something I’ve also given thought. I believe Ferrari will seldom need to enact team orders. Leclerc is essentially Ferrari’s Verstappen, which makes this title duel so engaging. I would hate to see Sainz have his first win taken from him to boost Leclerc’s chances. That would destroy him, their investment in him and their own chances of winning the WCC. Conversely, can you imagine if Leclerc lost the WDC by less than seven points?
As always with us the second car will be competitive only to be in the fight with the first one not to take points away from the other team. Remember Monaco 2017 or hockenheim 2012?
ooof Ric punched in another lackluster performance in contrast to his teammate Lando at Monaco…knocked out in Q2 down in 14th
Best case scenario is McLaren negotiate to keep him w a huge pay cut and definitely less than Lando, but this would still be contingent on him being able to perform/support more closely. IMO I don’t think Ric will tolerate being officially designated #2 that and he will have no choice but to leave F1.
Pretty obvious he has to go , whatever the issue is , there is no chemistry between the car , the team and the driver . He has been with Mclaren for 2 years now , enough of the lame excuses that the car doesn’t suit him , any driver of his calibre can adjust after some seat time .
Could Williams function without the Latifi money? Not only sponsorship but Michael Latifi loaned money to Williams. Don't know if Dorilton satisfied the debt?
Riccardo would do wonders in Indy Car... He's likable and the media love him.. he could be a Household name in the USA, and Make way more ... from my seat he's done in F-1, it's just a matter of time before he realizes it. He would do much better to leave on his own, go to Indy, vs. being cut out of McLaren and then have to scrounge for a drive. I could see him doing Indy and Nascar... it would be huge.
gosh, no wonder he's still around. I had no idea Latifi money has been keeping Williams afloat... I didn't think Williams could do any worse than loldonado...
I have to say Ricciardo is a mystery. The year he had Ocon as a teammate ( Renault) he absolutely dominated him and suddenly the year after he’s nowhere against Norris.. No big accident could explain this. Private concerns ?
As most of you know... I'm in no way a Ric fan. He reminds of the 40 year old guy that clings to the glory days of his high school football team where he once ran it back 100 yards for the TD. F1 is not and will never be about what you "did" but so much more so about you're doing today and he hasn't done much at all. I think he's overrated and his Mr. Funny Guy act is starting to wear thing for many of the fans he's gotten along the way. At some point fans care less about your stupid antics than they do about watching "the last of the late brakers" drive like someone who can compete. Yes he got that win last year... I think you could argue the merit of that, but a win is a win is a win. You could also easily say that Lando would've taken that win where he got caught out on the last lap in the rain and could barely drive the car... but a loss is a loss, is a loss by the same token. I think what I can't stand about him is that he's always "on." There's never a break from his tired comedic act he puts on. I'd like to seem him at least act serious once in a while. It's going to be a tough year for some of these veterans like Lewis, Ric, and a couple or so others maybe who are getting their asses handed to them by they're younger counterparts.
