We do own guns. Australia has 3.5m registered guns and around 1 million gun owners.

School shootings continue because the leftists refuse to provide armed protection to the public schools. Of course Pelosi, Newsom, etc, all have armed guards protecting them. And you can bet they send their kids to wealthy private schools that have every security device invented - including firearms - protecting their kids. They just don't want it for the plebs. Plugs has a veritable army walking around with him.

How about the leftists giving up their guns first ?

Cool story, bro. Everybody else’s problem but yours. You’re an idiot… one nation, totally divided under God (or whoever your imaginary friend might be)

There's lots of ways to commit suicide, so throw that one out. The other big number is for criminal shootings in the liberal run cities. This could easily be solved by simply putting the criminals in jail. Unfortunately, the liberals in charge of those cities have decided that putting criminals in jail is somehow being racist. So they just let them run around and shoot each other. The number of deaths from school shootings is actually quite low in comparison.

Personally, I think the battle for gun control is over. No matter what the politicians come up with, it will be ineffective. Even if we stopped selling ALL guns in the USA, it would literally be hundreds of years before the existing guns rust out and many of those will continue to be in working condition if properly cared for.

I've been thinking that perhaps we're shooting at the wrong target. The weak link in the kill chain of gun violence is the ammunition since it's a consumable. Strictly controlling access to full power ammunition may be the answer. I wrote up a long and boring description of a program I call "Trusted Handler" that might have some possibilities.

    https://www.coryat.org/2022/05/effective-gun-control-through.html

Flame me all you want but if you have any suggestions on how this idea could be improved, I'd love to hear about it. I'm a gun owner and believe in the right to bear arms but things are really out of control. Something has to be done or we are all at risk.

Wouldn't help. Recall that the Sandy Hook perp stole the gun (and the ammo) from his mother, then killed her with it.

We're still not getting a straight answer on whether there was a security officer on site in Uvalde. But clearly the police response was bungled. The perp could have been stopped before he started shooting up the school, but police wouldn't engage. Same thing happened at Parkland.

Florida raised the age limit to 21 after Parkland. This "might" help. Give the "kids" some time to get a job, and get away from the video games, and antidepressants.

    Other things that didn't work:

Urhmm, you live on a semi rural property surrounded by much the same....the majority of shootable wildlife would be minimal at best :)

Let's talk about the bloke in not so western Aussie, and eastern for that place on the other side of the island,if you don't have a firearm you'll be buggered.
Roos are in plague preportions in many places, dingo's,foxes and wild dogs decimate sheep stocks.
Bloody wabbits bugger the ground to make it unworkable.
Bloody wild pigs do the same.
Even crocs are a problem and worse 'cos they're bloody protected and worse still the EPA have to be notified for THEM to come and tell YOU that they aren't FFS!

Where you are going is a plague of 'roos.
On a drive from Atherton to Cunnamulla with a 100 series (luckily) and car trailer I took out about 15-18 of 'em.
Pretty much from about 3-4pm onwards so get off the road before then.

This was about 5 years ago and nothing has changed.

You will also have to be wary of emu's as well, they're as dumb as a box of frogs..
There are mobs of goats but they're pretty smart and try to get away....too afraid Greg's in the car!
