Just watched a Texas family interviewed…They despise the NRA and the Mum said to the reporter..A kid can’t buy a beer but he can buy a gun so you figure that out…Sums up how dysfunctional their system is…

An armed guard in each school - 99/100 will have a glock on the belt and nothing else. This kid walked in with an AR15. If you are familiar with the weapon you know the guard is dead before he knows what's going on. And, this is what gets me, where are all these armed bystanders who jump in and stop these massacres? I'm struggling to remember one??

Exactly. It’s one thing to say people can have the right to carry a gun (not saying I’m in favour of that, by the way), but as Gayry asked earlier:
Why would any suburban citizen need an assault rifle?

    It’s sheer insanity. Nothing else.

Just yesterday or Friday, a woman with a pistol stopped a shooter armed with an AR-15 at a birthday party in Texas before he could kill anyone. And don't forget the man with a pistol who stopped a massacre at a church in Texas a couple of years ago. There's plenty of examples but they don't get press time because they don't fit the narrative.

Actually, the press likes to call them assault rifles because it sounds better. Assault rifles are generally automatic weapons. The AR-15's the general population can buy are not automatic, they're semi-automatic. And there are plenty of what you might consider "true" hunting rifles which are semi-automatic and as powerful (or more) than an AR-15. Gotta ban them too.

And while we're at it, thousands more people are killed each year in automobile accidents each year so let's ban cars because cars must be the problem, not the drivers. Knives kill more than 1,700 people a year in the US (97,000 people world-wide). Let's get rid of them. People will get used to eating steak with a spork. In England, more people are killed with knives than guns because guns were banned. Murder didn't stop, it just migrated to what is handy. Nut cases are going to use whatever weapon the can get their hands on. Or maybe you just feel better when thousands of people are killed one at a time in a year instead of 19 at once. That is not in any way meant to diminish the tragedy of what happened but you're trying to address the wrong problem.

I didn’t realize your kids were back at school, I thought you were all still pissing in your pants locked down in your basements by your government because of Covid...who knew!?

What is laughable is reading the “rationale” being implemented by many of you here during your emotional tirades.
The beautiful and wonderful USA, which is more responsible for your quality of life than anyone born on your soil, is vast and comprised of very diverse groups of people—from some of the most brilliant people in the World to absolute whackos capable of the most gruesome acts. Fortunately the good outweighs the bad.

There are more guns in the US than people, IIRC somewhere in the neighborhood of 400 million or so. Limiting legal access to guns at this point to the 99.999999999999999999% of people who have never committed any violent crime isn’t going to stop the lone wolf whacko. Or for that matter the vast majority of gun deaths which are gang, drug, and suicide related. Period. Ever. The lone wolf whacko will always be able to get a gun; just as he can get crack, and a hooker whenever he so desires....oh, and he’ll get bullets too. So your emotional rants and whatever idiotic recommendations you might have would have as much impact as a mosquito’s fart in a stiff breeze. But go ahead, continue on stroking each other in your little echo chamber down there.

Had the police acted like they were supposed to this might have been avoided or at least mitigated. But instead it appears a bunch of candy ass coward cops were more interested in arresting parents outside the school who were receiving texts from their kids being shot at in the moment....parents who were planning on storming the building.

How many of you self-righteous government boot lickers gave a crap when a guy mowed down a Christmas parade here in his SUV?

While you’re lecturing on access to proper information how about you please describe the process for buying a gun legally in the US? Or a CCW for that matter? And then describe how YOU would improve it. Do it right here and right now genius...

I’ve done it dozens of times....my biggest infraction is a handful of minor speeding tix over 35 years...love guns and no intention of ever shooting anyone. I don’t live in fear.
    But...I’m always prepared.

I've been driving for 50 years , never been booked, well maybe once or twice but nothing serious

How does an 18yo kid get a semi-automatic rifle, how does he get any rifle ??!!

He obviously had mental issues but sure, he can have a rifle, BUT he can't drink , that would be irresponsible !!

I figured you didn’t understand our processes despite your rantings. In Texas there is an expression for people like you: Big hat, no cattle.
How does an 18 yo get a rifle, but he can’t drink?
Listen Quigley Down Under you are clearly easily confused about human behavior and don’t understand not only our laws but the rationale behind them. “Better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than....“

Sums up nothing other than a 10 year old can be stupid. He could have just as easily called in a bomb threat...or...said he had Covid and was going to run through the halls without a mask on..oh wait..that would be an Aussie terror attack.

    Pal, the numbers don’t lie.

I love your country but when it comes to guns, you are completely ****ed up.
No other country in the world is in the kind of mess yours is in.

Trying to pretend otherwise doesn’t change the facts.

Numbers don’t lie? Don’t change the facts? I bet you don’t know the numbers or facts, do you?

54% of gun deaths in the US are....what?.....Did you guess suicide?

15-33% of homicides are gang and drug-deal related. So criminals shooting each other. Domestic violence makes up a huge percentage of the other murders...so without a gun I guess the guy would have stabbed or beaten to death his partner, right?

Here is another “telling” number..black males are ~7% of US population but account for...what %?....did you guess ~66% of gun murders?

With regards to Quigley above pondering rifle madness...in the US you are more likely to be stabbed to death than killed by a rifle...OR...more likely to be bludgeoned to death than killed by a rifle...OR...more likely to be beaten to death by hands or feet than a rifle. You guys proposing banning hammers, toasters, irons, hands, and feet?

Over 50% of murders are in 2% of US counties....are the guns the problem or the county? Can you tease together a comprehensive cogent thought on that? Over half of all counties in the US have zero gun violence.

~80% of gun violence is done with illegally obtained guns.

Statistical analysis has shown that for each 1% increase in CCW (concealed carry permit holders) there is a 2.5X decrease in the murder rate for that locale.

Switzerland and Israel have higher per capita gun ownership rates than the US but much lower gun violence rates. Hint...it ain’t the guns in the hands of sensible citizens that’s the problem Socrates.

So..you’re right the numbers don’t lie. But it really irks me when people sitting 12,000 miles away on the planet’s ass end think it is appropriate to insult my country because they are too ignorant to understand more complex issues.

I think one of the big problems with gun violence is that the media amplifies every event with carefully chosen words to generate MORE conflict. Politicians do the same as the more conflict, the more money they rake in. Conflict sells. That's the base issue here. The more conflict, the more money changes hands. If the media and politicians were to stop selling conflict as a product, the level of anger would drop and senseless killing would also drop. Turning every mass murderer into a folk hero is absolutely counter productive. If we stopped identifying these murderers and stopped delving into their pathetic lives and discussing the minutia of their mental problems, perhaps people wouldn't strive to be like them. Mass murder is a disease that's contagious.

You could just try and stop killing children by making guns hard to get for mentally unstable people, ............. and poor old deluded italiafan may just be in the dementia group so we should stop picking on the disabled, we're supposed to be a caring country that doesn't kill their kids
