I’m moving to Miami next summer for work and will be there for 3 years. Doesn’t make sense to buy in the current market and I’ll only be there for 3 years, so renting is what I’d like to do. My office is downtown, so something within 30 min driving (in my 458 each day) is preferable.

I’m a single guy and plan to enjoy the bachelor lifestyle while I’m there. I’d like to spend about $3500-$4000/month renting something nice in a good area. No need for a single family home, prefer a condo.

I don’t know Miami well and would like any recommendations from fellow Fchatters on good areas I should explore.

Rent a condo downtown. A 30 minute commute will only get you a few miles away. Traffic is terrible. You may also get away with living in SoBe though you will have to deal with traffic on the Causeway everyday. The design district may also be an option just north of downtown.

Downtown or SoBe. Don't drive the f-car daily in Miami and try not to drive to work at all.

I hope you like congestion, traffic and price gouging! ;)

I'd look into Brickell as well though in this market I don't know how much $4k a month will get you there. I'd stay away from Sobe unless you like unrest or are into the thug life. Search YouTube for what goes on there during spring break, ultra, urban week, etc. It's so bad most locals there go out of town to avoid it.

P.S. when you go to bars and clubs don't wear your Rolex and or watch your drink around the women. ;)

I wouldn't drive a Ferrari daily in Miami. It will be stolen, keyed, hit, rear-ended (this is an inclusive list - all will happen with time). Carry a gun. Do so lawfully. Not joking. No bling jewelry. You will be target of criminals AND smoking hot women who want to drug you for your bling. I'm not being drama, but rather educating you. I am an attorney and ALWAYS carry a Glock. Always. I drove to Miami for work for 15 years and saw a lot of "gems" and was happy i was carrying.
Brickell is nice. Beaches are nice. There's lots of old money in Miami.

Whoa! I didn't realize it was that bad over there. I can't think of any place in the US that has had these types of recommendations this quickly.

To be fair most of the negatives can be dealt with if you are a multi millionaire or if you are young and single (with lots of disposable income) and just looking to party. Lol, my wife's best friend lives on the bay in Coral Gables but she either is driven everywhere or takes the helicopter to Palm Beach. She doesn't have to work or run errands, etc. like the rest of us.

We have some friends who live in Brickell and some in mid town and they love it. They have no kids and have different "priorities" in life. Their idea of fun and living is the polar opposite of mine. It's definitely a city that requires that you do your due diligence. You can live in a four million dollar condo and be a few blocks away from the ghetto. Stray a few blocks in the wrong direction and you better be prepared.

    YMMV.

Thanks guys. Been doing research all night.

What are your thoughts on North Miami Beach / Bal Harbor / Surfside areas?

Also, Coral Gables seems nice and lots of good options in the $4k/mo range. Is Coral Gables a good area?

Brickell, at least from the photos, just seems like a lot of concrete, prefab towers, etc.

I live in coconut grove and actually own and operate real estate . Been here since 2021. For young and single brickell or brickell key would be the best, downtown is far less appealing. If you want cheaper rent to get more for your money, you can try edgewater, between 395 and 195 east of biscayne. If you want to see hipsters all day, but have the best food walking distance, wynwood has several new multi buildings. The beach is over, coconut grove or gables will be less exciting but it’s picking up with everyone moving here.
If you need any more advice, feel free to ask, I can typically point you right

Coral Gables and Coconut Grove are nice but the traffic is insane. It took us just under an hour to get from the Ritz there to the Gables Estates (5 miles) during evening rush hour.

I suggest that before you commit you do a "test drive" to see what type of daily commute you'll be looking at. I also recommend you do some research into the flooding. There are lots of roads in those areas that turn into rivers when we get a lot of rain coupled with high tides. Last thing you want is to get stuck in it with a decent car.

Bal Harbour and North Beach area is very nice, plenty of streets with restaurants to walk around, and you have the beach. The problem with Bal Harbour is the traffic to downtown will be ridiculous. During rush hour traffic you can count on a 1-hr commute each way, if not more.

For a single professional bachelor lifestyle you definitely want to be in central Brickell, that's where the majority of upscale restaurants, bars, and nightlife is. And you'll be right near downtown to keep your commute within 15 mins, maybe even be able to walk.

Midtown/Design District is also good if you want a similar but more relaxed atmosphere.

Miami Beach traffic is ridiculous, ghetto, and for tourists, I wouldn't even consider it.

I live in Coconut Grove, fantastic place to live and central grove has nice places to hang out but it's more for families with kids. Coral Gables is even more of a family neighborhood with nothing really going on at night.

Regular "Downtown" Miami I would not consider, while there are a lot of upscale high rises and it's near the Miami Heat's arena, there's not a lot going on at night and full of homeless.

Now like others have said, driving the 458 daily in Miami is not a matter of "if" your car will get damaged but "when", ask me how I know :(.
You should definitely get a second daily car and keep the 458 for weekend pleasure.

Feel free to message me if you want more details.

Although traffic is a constant problem,it also depends if you have flexible working hours. Best times to commute are between 10am and 3:30Pm My daughter lives in Brickell and uses the city tram/train. Believe she pays around 4k per month for a 2 bedroom apartment. You should make a pre-advance trip and try commute times to North Miami Beach as an option. If you are bring your 458 make sure parking spaces are suitable and safe.

Brickell, Brickell, Brickell!!! I have a second home there and absolutely love it. I would live there full time if I could. You don’t need a car and can save the 458 for fun drives while walking and using the light rail/people mover to get around. I am based in Seattle and Brickell is a dream compared to here. We are very comfortable walking around at any time, people are warm and friendly and the lifestyle is amazing. I cannot say enough positive things about it. As others have said stay South of the Miami river and avoid downtown. They are revitalizing it and it is a just too early to enjoy.

Check out Icon Brickell for rentals which offers the lifestyle you may be looking for. Brickell Key offers good value and is a short walk from everything as well. DM me if you want to chat more about Brickell by phone.
