Too many stories of the home defender shooting a teenager sneaking home or having a pee, or forgetting that a friend stayed over. A hand held fire extinguisher can sit in plain sight next to your bed, easy to grab and operate, no mess if it's CO2, and a handy club when it's empty. Your night vision should be excellent, and your knowledge of the landscape perfect. An intruder getting blasted in the eyes with minus 79 degrees C CO2 ice crystals will definitely have something to think about. And it's non-lethal (until you hit him over the head with it).

I found an old airraid siren in the first house I bought - timber stick with a metal hand-wound siren that would put any electronic alarm to shame. Multi purpose tool to keep beside the bed (tucked nicely under the valance) - either clock them or just frighten the hell out of em with the noise!

Yep. The system we have installed with 4 cameras controlled by my phone also has an alarm button - easy to find on my phone in a few seconds and the sirens are ridiculously loud.

If I were to wake up to the sound of intruders downstairs (admittedly unlikely without the dogs going crazy first) I’d be hitting that button while still in bed and frankly I doubt anyone would want to hang around once that noise is blaring throughout the house and street!

No need for a gun in Oz. If they still decided to come upstairs the strategically placed cricket bat would come in handy.

Doesn’t stop me from having fantasies about shooting a few punks from my balcony, mind you… :D

I reckon the dogs are probably the best security you can have... would never rely on anything wifi based - way too easy to hack.

    100% on the dogs.

The average messed up loser who might be breaking into my house at 3am is unlikely to be performing an Oceans Eleven style operation, IMO.

Not to mention it works just as well on 3/4/5G as it does on wifi.

Don’t be too sure - there was a rash of high end vehicle thefts in Bris a couple of years back - all garages had wifi enabled openers...Note B&D have a TV ad regarding locking on their doors which is separate from the standard auto closers.

Interesting. Nothing in this house security wise relies on wifi.
Garage door is an old school one.

Having said that, I don’t really give a **** - if someone is desperate to take my cars I’ll let them.
I’m not going to war over a car or any other trinket.
They can have it and insurance will sort it out.

Different story re me, Chloe, and the dogs (standing by for confusion from some).
I wouldn’t hesitate to shoot any Kant whom wanted to do us personal harm, but I don’t see it as realistic for the reasons others have already stated.

A gun in the house would be more bad than good.

Of course. Parts of Melbourne are like the US with rampaging gangs.

But we mustn't speak of the detail of that. It'd be .........

Not hard to go and get one, just fill out the appropriate paperwork, pass the Police checks, join your local gun club, pay the fees, purchase a gun safe and then purchase a gun, ammo and enjoy. :)

I am too scared to have a gun in my household................because I fear I would use it on myself one day. :(
