Having just run over, and ruined, my Ferrari battery tender, I wonder if there's a way to replace it without bothering the Fcar parts department. Can the magnetic connector be spliced onto a "parts store" trickle charger?

The answer is yes .. but to be sure can you post a pic of the connector
I believe that is the mag type disk which has two wires .. it always can be taken apart IIRC - two tiny screws in disk

Best option is the CTEK MXS 5 or MXS 10. The original ferrari tender (which is as has been pointed out is just a rebadged CTEK) is rated under 5A so really not enough. As to the cable .. just google ‘cteck magnetic connector’ to find one closest to you.

I would also recommend the CTEK 7002.

Yep that would be even better than the MXS 5

My 7002 has been absolutely flawless on my 488! I got a new magnetic connector on eBay at the time, I believe the seller posts on the forum too.

I preferred the MXS5 over the 7002 when I bought mine. The reason being that it has an automatic winter mode that adjusts for temperature, without me needing to select the function.
