I decided todo it and finally get the Testarossa I’ve always wanted, yet was too nervous to get from the beginning of my Ferrari ownership experience!
I sold my 2001 550 back in April and after a winter of looking and trying cars here in Europe I selected one that is already maintained by my mechanic here in Austria.
Very fair price considering it’s condition and the scale in the market as of late.

I just got it home on the weekend after finalizing all the import steps as it was a German car.
I still have my ‘86 328 GTS which I’m selling, (but only to make my wife happy.. ‍♂️)
The car had 57.000 km, complete service history and by far the best interior/ exterior of 7 cars I looked at and tested in a 600 km radius down to Modena even.

After 38 years of wanting this one, I’m definitely over the moon. I do have a short driving season in the alps, but I have the best roads you could want to enjoy her on!

I’m sure some gremlins will show up as she’s old and a Testarossa, but that’s the joys of classic car ownership.
Hope your mutual seasons are very well and trouble free!
    Cheers

Congratulations! Crema leather and black carpet/dash (maybe dash is brown?) is my favorite interior.

I gather almost all TR had the brown dash so sounds like a pretty rare find!

I'm in the process of buying a similar spec and mileage 1994 512TR from Switzerland which should ship to the US any day. But I had the red exterior painted blu pozzi.

Sorry about having to give up the 328 and 550. I'm keeping my tdf/crema/dark blu carpet 550!

Yeah most of the cars I looked at it had tan leather and brown Dash.
And the leather looked absolutely beat
Especially the drivers bolster. I hope you’re purchase go smoothly. Is this site unseen?

Maybe I won’t give in on the 328. All depends on how much aggravation one wants to have! Lol I definitely don’t want to

A little sag in the driver's bolster, but the leather cleaned up pretty well, and not bad enough to address the bolster right away.

I've not seen it in person, but am very comfortable with the guy I've been working with (who I found thru an fchatter). One other fchatter has seen it, and Romano may take a look before it ships if he can fit it into his schedule. But still a bit crazy buying sight-unseen from across the ocean and during covid!

Hope you can drag your feet a little on selling the 328 and see how that goes!

Looks fantastic - and what a great post to read too! Many congratulations! So, we need some side by side photos with the 328!! I recently asked on the 308/328 forum which I should get to go with my Testarossa (or a 348/355) so I’d be really interested to see how you get on and how they compare!!

Tough choice 308/328 or 348/355! I had wanted a 355b next but my brother-in-law bought one, which then led me to a 512TR with the somewhat similar/complementary styling. Saw a 308gtb a few weeks back driving in to work and they are beautiful as well!

    a 308 with dry sump or a 308 quatrovalvole I would prefer much more than a 328. a 355 I would not buy because of the 5 valve heads. better a 348.
always remember: a real ferrari has a 12 cylinder engine :)

@turbo-joe I hadn't realized the 328 was wet sump, and that the US/AU/JP 308's were as well, but Euro 308's were dry sump.

I guess I would prefer a 355 for the significant increase in power, and if you prefer 308/328 styling a BB for the same reason.

not all have been dry sump, only all the polyster ( vetroresina ) and some of the early metal ones
the 355 have engine oil problems after about 40.000 km and need then a rebuilt - or fill always oil in.

I hope I can too! I’d like to bring her home this week. She shares the same plates with the Testarossa so she’s on the road. That’s one of the real benefits of the Austrian system. One plate can be moved to three cars!

    Thanks a lot!
I think any V8 will be a great compliment to the Testarossa. I haven’t driven her at speed yet, but it seems it’s just a level more subdued then the 328. Steering rack is a little slower of course but even on our tight twisty roads I could keep my hands on the wheel (9 and 3) and never have to readjust. The ride on the 328 is hard and your literally feel everything through your butt and hands. The Testarossa has a more supple ride, but you feel super planted still have good feedback and you’re as low…
I was waiting for more body roll or to feel the ass be more dominant today and I was quite happy to feel it wasn’t the case. Mind you I was taking it easy, but our roads are very tight.
I guess it depends on how similar do you want your cars to be?
I think the 328 is closer related then I was expecting. But again, it’s early in this relationship… lol

    Nice looking 328!

So crazy from my US perspective you can share plates there, does that help with insurance or registration fees?

Enjoyed reading your first impressions of your TR; I am so looking forward to finally driving one of these cars!

Crema seems much more popular in Europe than here in the US, I've seen very few US cars with it but many more Euro ones in my searching. But my US spec 550 does have it.

It’s a good way to save money. Both cars have the full replacement value, but only the car on the road has the motoring insurance when in motion. You only pay for one car, the one with more HP. And switching plates is done in 2 minutes. You just need to make sure you don’t forget to put them back on..
    I’ve had that happen a few times…
    ‍♂️ 25 km’s from home, then you realize it… [emoji21]
What is the spec on your 550?
I do miss it, she was quite unique, but the TR is way more captivating

Makes a lot of sense, here we pay insurance for each car.

The 550 is blu tour de france exterior, crema leather, and dark blue (scuro?) carpet and upper dash.

Was yours azzuro California? Looks great!

That’s a rare combo you have.
It is nice to have that registration option. We pay a lot of tax here so a little break isn’t a bad thing

Mine was Grigio alloy with red Bordeaux
