I'll be drinking Makers Mark & Mt Gay. While not a malt IMO I do enjoy and will bring along a bottle of Cardhu malt. dry ginger & Coke ..
His kit has a bottle Lube , some pingers , a rag , handcuffs and a bottle of ether…You should be fine…
I carry a smark kit for BlackJag.. I once did or damaged a lower shocker rubber mount , not an issue went into a hardware store at Bright . jacked the Jag up , filed down a door stopper and got home another time thermostat failed , just removed it .. In Tassie at Richmond the rubbers holding the rear exhaust bracket split , no issue used tiedowns to secure . if an E-type can do 500kms it will do 5,000kms . I've done 50,000 miles in that E-type including 4,500 kms in May this year . I must put the high speed diff back in her !!! The very idea of doing that flight in a piston twin with only an ADF is enough to give me nightmares. Someone pass me a scotch!!
. All this Lord Howe island posting makes me want to go back again! When I was there all those years ago, memory tells me a general store ,push bikes , sand roads and a wonderful old guest house .
So glad Mikey my boy didn’t have to do that building his hours for Cathay Steve…I lost a lot of friends in the early days of building hours and honing skills…
I asked my 92 year old mother , yesterday why my father gave up flying and sold his Cessna ? "Your sister was born ,no longer needed to fly up to Ballarat and had a falling out with the owner of the airfield he kept it at ...Coldstream which was a shame as it was a 10min drive from a family farm at Gruyere .."
Yeah I definitely get it, Gary. I lost a few along the way, too. One in particular was "There but for the grace of God, go I"... Very sad story. I think it's a lot different these days. Even in the middle of nowhere - where in our day would have been dodgy old bangers you'd kiss the ground every time you got out in one piece - are now Cessna 182s / 206s etc. with Garmin 1000s, FFS! I was in Marree yesterday and all the aircraft parked up and flown in the tourist season by fresh, young CPLs looked pretty damn good to me. The improvement in safety from modern avionics alone is incalculable. How is Mikey going?
I was trying to work out when my father owned the Cessna ,as I never remember much about it (not than a plane tragic) So the photo must be around 1961/2 as he only had that Silver Cloud 11 (bought new) for those years ,kept it at Coldstream airport ,no other airport around the area than . Sister born 1962 so he must have sold it around late 1962 Long gone before 1968 when my Godfather was killed in the P51 ..
