Great imagination. Plenty of airports around. He probably never owned it. Kids' memories play tricks. Lilydale airport definitely around in the 60s.
Yep 100% Steve that phrase But there for the grace of God is the only reason I’m here..At 19 flying single pilot in a chieftain on the east coast I knew Jack Shjt..Ignorance is bliss comes to mind! ..Mikeys still on the A350 but I’m trying to extract him from this place…He might have an interview flying right seat in a Citation X..I recon he’ll have great fun doing that..The US is the place to go for the young fellas now…They are parking jets because of no crew everyday…I have multiple offers of flying the jumbo or 777…At the moment I’m not sure what I’ll do, but he has a great future there if he decides to go…
Just watched Dunkirk again for the umpteenth time, gosh that movie is magnificent on so many levels. Yes, I want a spitfire too lol Image Unavailable, Please Login
No. Captains today earn less than they did in the 80s. And I don’t mean counting inflation. The raw numbers I saw in the late 80s advertising for Ansett Captains were larger than they are now. You could argue that it’s wonderful that now any of the great unwashed can fly whenever they like, but I don’t think that the wages reflect the level of responsibility. When you consider what some pimply idiot can earn for poncing around with a computer screen (in between getting an almond latte or two) it really is a joke. I often make the point in my job that there is only one person in our crew who has EVERYONE’S life in their hands all the time. Yes. Tight-arse bastard.
Love the P51, but it will never be a Spitfire. And, fark why would anyone want to fly to Melbourne. I enjoy flying at 900kmh AWAY from Melbourne, but that’s about it.
Coldstream airport was also constructed in the 60s,meaning both coldstream and Lilydale airports were around while Rob's dad was arguing with people about where to keep the plane he allegedly owned. I was browsing through aeroplanes for sale yesterday. There really are some beauties. It just sounds like more trouble than it's worth. If Rob's dad really owned one, that's most likely why he sold out. He bought new Rolls Royces too. Did anyone know?..... And Rob only eats from a silver spoon OLIO Sig www.pless.com.au/mechanics.htm
Oi!!! The reason you flyboys can leave all the flying to the computers is because of people like me ..... and I like flat whites thanks
I always have prefered the P51 for its fuel range and its exploits over Europe escoring the bombers into Germany . Both icons powered by Rolls-Royce ..
Did you ever wash planes at Coldstream airport it opened in 1961/2? or perhaps Lilydale airport that opened in 1968. If you were stationed at Coldstream in 1962 perhaps my fathers Cessna 172? If you worked out of Lilydale airport established 1968 ...not as my father had sold his 172 in late 1962 when my sister was born...family pressure etc .. or perhaps my Godfathers North American Mustang P51 out of Berwick airport around 1968?
You could just direct these queries to PP, I only ever washed planes at Amberley, Richmond, Sale, Perth, Darwin or Mt Home and Hawaii
Morrettiii....did you ever come across my Godfathers P51 when doing the Karcher contract work? Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login Image Unavailable, Please Login
These was an F-111 pilot that had one , use to store it at Amberley, lovely bloke, not up himself like a lot of air show pilots ..... particularly the Roulettes 30 years ago
There is a good quality Australian P51 Mustang page with full details and photos of the OZ P51s ,there was also a RAAF pilot at Sale who had a P51 . At Mangalore airport he was therer do flights ,I spoke to him .."where off to now" "back to Sale" what a flight , 2,000hp warbird . Found the photos of my Godfathers P51 on Google "VH DBB"
