Merc has been a better team than Ferrari for like forever. it's hard not to be frustrated with the Scuderia. :)

He has stated nothing at all about that. In fact the press is the opposite. So when you are in pain you just give up lol????????? You have ZERO proof of anything. Worthless post #20000000000000000000000000000 about LH. He owns you and so many here is quite funny lol.

So that will mean another forthcoming grid penalty for Leclerc ?

    What about Sainz ?

This means he'll finish third right? The earlier the withdrawal, the better he does...

still don't understand why drivers get penalized for technical DNF's.

    Penalize the team yes !

Deduct WCC points. Really simple and equitable.

Because if you are doing a mercedes 2021 you could run a new engine every 2nd race, remember Lewis in Brazil? If you're using an engine engineered to last 2 or 3 races rather than 8+ you're basically in another category of car performance. You can't tell me teams wouldn't use that to game the WDC if they could and there was no penalty. As it stands right now the penalty for taking new engines isn't enough, because as we saw last year the new engine can provide more benefit than the penalty.

Losing WCC points would significantly hurt the team and act as a powerful deterrent.

That analysis only works in a sprint race like Brazil2021. There's was only 3 sprint races in 2021. You could swap out the "spicey" engine every 3rd race but now your at the back of the grid every 3rd race....and won't give you a high probability of ending the race P1.

Points from the WCC title still would get deducted either way.

It's little to do with sprint races, swapping engines whenever you want without penalty is still going to give a massive advantage. Also after the first engine as it stands you don't even start at the back of the grid, it's only a 5 place penalty for each further engine. That was the issue last year, new engines for Merc were a huge advantage and for little penalty. You can't tell me no team would ever give up WCC points to win the WDC, that is very wishful thinking.

    Nope....wrong.

You penalize the team in the WCC standings for swapping out that many engines every 3rd race by deducting points. It's a deterrence for just that.

You do realize teams are allowed a 3 component allocation allotment for the season....yes?? Once you go over 3, the driver gets penalized.

In your scenario, IF a team were to swap out an extra 4 engines----> so 3 without penalty and then 4 WITH PENALTY- in a 22 race season THEN YOU PENALIZE THE TEAM IN THE WCC STANDINGS BY DEDUCTING POINTS.

Uhm, you guys were talking about NOT giving penalties to drivers for technical breaches!! LMAO

My view is, there are many instances where a team would gladly sacrifice some WCC points to give their driver an advantage in the WDC, surely that is bleeding obvious? But the opposing view is 'Nope WRONG' lmao

Im a novice really in F1. Ive been in NHRA for years. I certainly get the balance between power and longevity, Seems to me Ferrari went a bit light on reliability. Its so frustrating. I would rather have them come out a solid second and worked on it than turned it up to F you right away and had it self destruct. Hopefully they can regroup, get back in the fight for 2-3 and live out the year. Make a move next year. But crapping on the best driver in the series is NOT a winning strategy. I think Lec would understand if he knew the deal.
